Russia faces growing outrage amid new evidence of atrocities

Source: AP

By OLEKSANDR STASHEVSKYI and NEBI QENA

BUCHA, Ukraine (AP) — Russia faced a fresh wave of condemnation on Monday after evidence emerged of what appeared to be deliberate killings of civilians in Ukraine. Some Western leaders called for further sanctions in response, even as Moscow continued to press its offensive in the country’s east.

Germany’s defense minister suggested the European Union discuss a ban on Russian gas imports, but more senior officials indicated an immediate boycott was not possible — a sign that leaders could struggle in the short-term to ramp up already severe sanctions on Russia.

Ukrainian officials said the bodies of 410 civilians were found in towns around the capital, Kyiv, that were recaptured from Russian forces in recent days. In Bucha, northwest of the capital, Associated Press journalists saw 21 bodies. One group of nine, all in civilian clothes, were scattered around a site that residents said Russian troops used as a base. They appeared to have been shot at close range. At least two had their hands tied behind their backs.

In Motyzhyn, to the west of Kyiv, AP journalists saw the bodies of four people who appeared to have been shot at close range and thrown into a pit. Residents said the mayor, her son, and her husband — who had been bound and blindfolded — were among them.

Every atrocity by Russian soldiers was encouraged. How much longer will the world allow Ukrainians to suffer without coming to their rescue? Sanctions are not enough. More weapons are not enough. NATO power is needed now.

Bill Clinton found him to be cold and worrisome.

In private, Bush privately called Putin "one cold dude".

Obama likened Putin to a tough Chicago "ward boss" in his memoir.

Biden has publicly called him a "killer" and an "aggressor."

They were all saying he was a sociopath, except Trump.

By LYING about how lethal it is and dismissing wearing masks in public.

The orange mob boss is responsible for hundreds of thousands preventable deaths.

Putin has been very cold and calculating, able to play the long game. Trump is emotional, reckless, and reactive. He can be as cruel and lethal as Putin, but he lacks the discipline and patience to be a competent authoritarian. He is always sabotaging his own efforts and has a very short shelf life.

As for Putin, it appears his patient calculating nature has failed him this time. It is rather bizarre to see him be so erratic and out of control.

Justice matters.

One day or another, they all 'fall' (although in China and North Korea, that remains to be seen but one day or another, those oppressive regimes will fall as well).

who can be competent for awhile, but eventually their hubris and appetite for more power clouds their reason. Add to that the fear of being toppled by one's enemies and irrationality, sometimes even insanity, can take over.

I think Gandhi summed it up well:

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

I think that such madness is unsustainable because of the nature of a madness that causes some people to seek unlimited power at any cost.

"-urged them to assess whether Russian oligarchs linked to the Kremlin or who support the war in Ukraine should be stripped of citizenship rights previously granted." That's from another post about Russian oligarchs in Europe.

USA should do the same with being more aggressive against Russian oligarchs and un-American republicans. It shouldn't have been a war to start this.
