Source: The Guardian
Elon Musk has built up a 9.2% stake in Twitter, according to filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday.
Twitter shares jumped 26% in pre-market trading on the back of the news that the worlds richest person holds shares worth almost $3bn in the micro-blogging platform.
Musk, the maverick boss of Tesla and SpaceX who has an estimated $273bn (£208bn) fortune, owned 73,486,938 Twitter shares on 14 March according to the filing. Those shares were worth just under $2.9bn based on Fridays closing price, but will now be worth about $3.6bn.

(43,331 posts)Any return of TDFG would split it, and it might drive ordinary left of center people away for good. Plus there's competition now, so many apps, niche groups. I don't think Twitter a slam dunk going forward.

(14,593 posts)the Wall Street greed heads will get richer.
In the meantime, in spite of doing everything right - college, grad school, good job, employer provided healthcare, I have actually had to TAKE OUT A LOAN to pay for additional healthcare costs this year. A LOAN!!!
I'm sorry, but I'm pissed at most of the Democrats to the degree I'm not going to donate any more until I see some action around legislation that will materially help me and my family over the long term - like healthcare, or expanded social security.
(An aside on Social Security - did you all see that Mitt Romney, whose net 'worth' is $300 million, has said he would be all for RAISING THE RETIREMENT AGE YET AGAIN? Did you see that???).
The Republicans are worthless traitors. Our party needs to charge the traitors with treason and other 'high crimes and misdemeanors,' message a WHOLE LOT MORE EFFECTIVELY, get Manchin and Sinema under control, and start passing legislation on healthcare, expanding Social Security WITHOUT caving on retirement age, making public college a whole lot more affordable and debt-free for my kids and grandkids, increasing childcare subsidies so people can return to work, and beefing up K-12 so it is a shining jewel that is the envy of the world.
THAT needs to be the agenda. Nobody batted a congressional eyebrow on the $770 billion war bill this year. Why not actually do some stuff that benefits the actual American people?
Because - GODDAMN IT - I should not have to take out a fucking loan for healthcare costs. The profit motive is in direct conflict with our interests as patients, and we need to PUBLICLY FUND a universal system for all Americans. Hey, why not Medicare?
I'll tell you what - these are my peak earning years and I'd be doing SO GOOD if it wasn't for fucking healthcare costs. It is bullshit that, at age 63, I don't have Medicare and have to take out a fucking loan.
Sorry for the rant, but there it is. I'm not donating a dime because I can't. I owe on a goddamned healthcare loan. Fuck.
