Over 30 killed, 100 wounded in Russian rocket strike on Ukrainian station, rail company says

By Natalia Zinets

April 8 (Reuters) - More than 30 people were killed and over 100 were wounded in a Russian rocket strike on a railway station in east Ukraine on Friday as civilians tried to evacuate to safer parts of the country, the state railway company said.

It said two Russian rockets had struck a station in the city of Kramatorsk which is used for the evacuation of civilians from areas under bombardment by Russian forces.

"Two rockets hit Kramatorsk railway station," Ukrainian Railways said in a statement. ... It later added: "According to operational data, more than 30 people were killed and more than 100 were wounded in the rocket attack on Kramatorsk railway station."

Reuters could not verify the information. Russia did not immediately comment on the reports of the attack and the casualty toll. Moscow has denied targeting civilians since invading Ukraine on Feb. 24.

From the link https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/04/08/world/ukraine-russia-war-news#kramatorsk-train-station-russia-strike

A Russian strike on a train station in Kramatorsk, which had been a main point of evacuation for thousands of people trying to flee the embattled eastern regions of Ukraine, left “dozens” dead and injured on Friday morning, according to the governor of the Donetsk region.

“Thousands of people were at the station during the missile strike, as residents of Donetsk region are being evacuated to safer regions of Ukraine,” the governor, Pavlo Kyrylenko, said in a statement posted to the Telegram social media app.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said in a statement posted by the government that the Kramatorsk railway station had been hit with a Tochka-U short-range ballistic missile as “thousands of peaceful Ukrainians were waiting to be evacuated.” About 30 people died, and about 100 people were injured to varying degrees, he said.

“Lacking the strength and courage to stand up to us on the battlefield, they are cynically destroying the civilian population,” he said. “This is an evil that has no limits. And if it is not punished, it will never stop.”

Kill 'em all aka the Russians. Including Putin. To target these people who were no threat at all was barbaric.

Time to swear some NATO jet fighters in as citizens of Ukraine and start flying sorties
out of Lviv if Ukraine doesn't have the pilots.

Kill 'em aka the Russians. This has to stop.

Including the Russians or Naval Ships on the Black Sea and those @ the bases in Belarus and Russia too
where they are launching missile and bombers @ Ukraine.

“They took away everything — relatives, friends, communications, even an old calendar” that had been hanging in his cell, he said. “But they couldn’t take one thing away from me: I was ready to die. This is something that cannot be taken away from a person even when everything else is taken away.”

And that, he said, is why Ukraine has stood up to the supposedly superior Russian forces, and why it will ultimately prevail.

“This is what our whole country is now,” he said. “We are more willing to die than to give up or lose. And that is why the Russian Federation has already lost in this war.”

don't understand I think. Strikes like this build an angry resolve. Putin made a big mistake in February and is still making mistakes. He just better cut his losses and stand down.

It was painted on the side and photographed. The inscription appears to be pushing Russia's propaganda that children are "suffering under Unkranian shelling."

So, kill the children because they are being killed by Ukrainians. Yeah, that makes tons of sense.

I am a former infantry officer and I know bad things happen in war. But the Russians seem to totally disregard any concept of humanity in their unapologetic targeting of civilian facilities and outright murder of civilians. Terrorizing civilians seems to be a part of their strategy, just like the barbarians of ISIS.
