L.A. County bans official travel to Florida, Texas over LGBTQ policies

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted this week to suspend all travel for county business to Florida and Texas, citing policies and legislation in the Republican-led states that officials said were driven by “transphobia and homophobia.”
Supervisors cited the February order by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) directing the state to investigate reports of gender-affirming treatments as potential child abuse.Florida wants gay tourists. A new law sends the wrong message, critics say. “To be clear, the directive is not about protecting trans kids,” the board’s motion said.
“It is about denying their existence and cutting off access to life-saving treatment.” In the motion, the board said it included Florida because of the Parental Rights in Education legislation — known by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill — that was signed into law late last month by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
The law does not allow classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity between kindergarten and third grade, “or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.” The Los Angeles County agenda item said the law would “perpetuate a culture of bullying, secrecy, shame, and fear.” “The kind of school environment imagined in this legislation is one that is uncomfortable, unsafe, unwelcoming, and toxic for all students and staff alike, particularly those who identify as LGBTQ+,” the motion said

but I remember going on a work-related trip to Galveston years ago and they were literally all over the hotel's outdoor trash cans. Just swarming them. 
We have a West Nile Virus problem here every year and we stay drenched in "Deep Woods Off" (to ward off the damn ticks too).
I do keep some Off "coils" and punks going when I'm out on my patio though! 
But I will admit that I was saddened that your state flag didn't become this -
I thought that was an excellent design!!!!

When I was on that trip and they were pointed out, I stayed WELL clear. I know they have a fierce "survival of the colony" instinct and will self-sacrifice for the thousands of others in their colony (e.g., they often show them creating ant-body "boats" to help their colony members transit flooded areas, etc).
I live near KSC (Kennedy Space Center, not Kentucky Scorched Chicken) & we didn't have fire ants until last year & then they invaded. A new hill would pop up just days after I eliminated an existing one, 20-30 feet away.
I'm pleased to report that this evening I walked my entire back yard (we have a large property, I buy pest/weed products from industrial suppliers & they come with application instructions that specify quantities per acre) & I didn't see a single fire ant hill. I'm having a cold beer to celebrate!

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office fired back this week after Florida was added to a list of places targeted by California because of laws involving LGBTQ people.California said it is halting state-funded travel to Florida and four other states because of what it considers discriminatory laws.
“Congratulations to California for somehow managing to create a new way to politicize its bureaucracy,” Christina Pushaw, a DeSantis spokeswoman, said after Florida was added to California’s travel-ban list — now at 17 states. California lawmakers created the list in 2016. Under it, California state agencies are prohibited from state-funded travel to states with laws allowing discrimination “on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.”
Florida, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota and West Virginia were added to the list Monday, joining Texas, Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. “Make no mistake: We’re in the midst of an unprecedented wave of bigotry and discrimination in this country — and the state of California is not going to support it,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement.
DeSantis last month signed into law a measure that bans transgender females from participating on girls’ and women’s high-school and college sports teams. A 13-year-old transgender girl from Broward County and her parents, backed by the group Human Rights Campaign, filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday challenging the law.

So now we are seeing the county-level officials doing the same and I expect other counties will follow suit using the state's template and they will probably get the same sort of whiny reaction.
You forgot the year of "travel bans" that were enacted by many states during the earliest days of the pandemic.

What many of the states implementing the restrictions have more recently done was to "follow CDC recommendations", and since those kept changing to include "throw off your masks and hug your grandchildren", inter-state restrictions were falling away with that "guidance". The initial Delta surge sortof kick-started the lists again in some places, although the availability of vaccines tended to mute the imposition of outright travel "bans" as a solution, and instead imposed mandatory proof of vaccination (or exemption), etc., in order to enter certain venues.
