Full Title: Mariupol mayor says 31,000 residents deported at 'gunpoint' to Russian 'filtration camps,' evacuations stalled

The mayor of the besieged city of Mariupol said that roughly 31,000 residents have been forcibly deported and sent to Russian "filtration camps" in occupied eastern Ukraine.

Mayor Vadym Boychenko said in a Telegram post Friday that he had "verified" that Ukrainians from the southern port city were being taken "at gunpoint" to a camp in Novoazovsk – a Ukrainian border town 35 miles from Mariupol and just 9 miles from the Russian border.

Novoazovsk is located in the Donetsk People’s Republic – a breakaway region in Ukraine’s most eastern front that has been backed by Russian forces and engaged in armed conflict with the Ukrainian army since 2014.

Just days before the February invasion, the Russian State Duma passed a bill officially recognizing the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, which was then signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Boychenko said Ukrainians have been at the camps for weeks.

The fear of Putin's nukes has me wondering of many people here will support NATO countries when they are attacked.

Georgia? been there don that. Finland? Did that a while back.

Send only defensive weapons and you're building towards a stalemate.

The bully takes territory? You'll slow him to a stop.

The victim wants to retake territory? It's *possible*, if the bully's not dug in and doesn't have consolidate, secure supply lines.

In other words, NATO is pretty much aiming for something that's status-quo like, but biased (by reality) towards the bully.

Unless it sends weapons that allow for offensive operations against a dug-in front. Tanks. Planes. Decent artillery. Soften the line and then assault it.

Javelins have done a number against front lines into new territory, and when used on the defense.

MiGs, Sus, artillery batteries, longer range AA batteries, anti-ship missiles, tanks for offensive operations.

Slovakia--great. *An* AA battery. After 3 weeks. At least that's taking announcements as indicating real time. (I have trouble accepting that Slovakia and the US would say, 3 weeks after the fact, that a single AA battery was sent to Ukr and Patriot missile battery to Slovakia. Perhaps 2-3 days, but not 3 weeks.)

Britain's sending APCs. Not really offensive; at best, given today's tech, dual use.

..let's send them on targets ourselves. Fuel depots, bridges
in Belarus and Russia near the Ukraine border. This would not
be an act of war at all, just a "Special Military Exercise"
