South Dakota attorney general impeached over fatal crash

Source: AP

By STEPHEN GROVES

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota House on Tuesday impeached state Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg over a 2020 fatal crash in which he initially told authorities he thought he had struck a deer or another large animal.

Ravnsborg will at least temporarily be removed from office pending the historic Senate trial, where it takes a two-thirds majority to convict on impeachment charges.

Ravnsborg pleaded no contest last year to a pair of traffic misdemeanors in the crash, including making an illegal lane change. He has cast Joseph Boever’s death as a tragic accident.

On Monday night, he sent lawmakers a pair of defiant letters urging them to vote against impeachment.

Good to see, thought he was going to get away from manslaughter scot free. No one should be above the law but the bae keeps getting lower.

31 idiots did not think that killing a person and fleeing the scene is a reason to impeach the state's to law enforcement officer.

Fucking republican morality.

ETA - and I believe any chance of hime ever getting charged with a felony is long gone.

But he did say it was ok cause the man he killed was a Democrat.

that's how my daughter was killed, hit and run. her killer claimed she thought it was an animal too, after my daughter had let out a bone chilling scream and her head broke the windshield right in front of the driver.

have to be glad he lost his position, but prison would be more appropriate in my opinion.

should be removed from office, too, because charging him with a lane violation is 100% pure bullshit and I have to believe they're corrupt as hell and didn't charge him with more serious crimes simply for political purposes.
