G.O.P. Memo Shows Road Map for Attacking Democrats on Immigration
Source: NYT
A document prepared by Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio shows how Republicans plan to weaponize the issue of immigration as part of their midterm campaign strategy.
WASHINGTON House Republicans are planning to use an oversight hearing next week to attack the Biden administration on its immigration policies, according to a memo obtained by The New York Times that offers a road map for how the G.O.P. intends to further weaponize an issue that is already a main thrust of their midterm campaign message against Democrats.
The detailed, 60-page guidance memo includes misleading and provocative talking points that seek to portray migrants and refugees as perpetrators of gruesome crimes, especially those involving sexual assault, echoing the language that former President Donald J. Trump used to denigrate immigrants. It also argues that the Biden administration has been lax on illegal immigration, seeking to put Democrats on the defensive on the issue.
It comes as Democrats are growing increasingly concerned that President Bidens immigration policies, including the recent decision to lift pandemic-era border restrictions next month, could pose a political liability for them ahead of the midterm elections.
The memo which is marked CONFIDENTIAL FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY repeatedly insinuates that immigrants could be sex offenders, highlighting a handful of arrests at the southwestern border and of Afghan evacuees. It also misrepresents a Biden administration policy designed to humanely enforce immigration laws as one that would bar law enforcement from surveilling sex offenders near schoolyards.

Concentrate on branding Republicans with the word weird. As in, theyre not keeping the trains running on time theyre concerned with the developing sex lives of children. Or other weird stuff.
Go further, tell them Democrats used to be looked upon as far out, but those hippies of the sixties like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates grew up to be titans of industry by the 2000s. Now its Republicans who are weird and obsessed with tabloid issues when Democrats are tackling the serious issues of 2022 like infrastructure, education, and climate change.
Repositioning Republicans as the weird political party can win the midterms.

Throw the damn thing right back in their faces.

(92,216 posts)Their "big" news this morning was, "Biden sows confusion in key issues response on immigration." Saying he thought they were talking about mask policy with him. They were both pandemic related issue, but the specifics that has Bloomberg in a huff is about title 42, and the federal mask mandate .
The WH did clarify the remarks later in the day, but then Bloomberg decided to add this"
"It comes at a time where Democrats within his party are questioning his decision to roll back this immigration provision by May 23. They say they need more time to come up with a plan coming to the Southern border, and worried there will be a giant surge. These are lawmakers within his own party."
"It also comes at a time when republicans have been questioning his mental health, questioning his ability to do his job........" blah blah blah
and then at the end of that segment, add:
"questioning whether Biden will be able to serve out his term, coming out with his slumping poll numbers"
I am so fucking sick of the bullshit that gets bantered about on the airwaves by the media.
Not one word on McCarthy and other republican leaders outright lying about their actions about trump during and after the insurrection, much which had been recorded on tape, and was reported on Maddow's program last night.
We sure don't want to paint the republicans in too negative of a light, with their hypocrisy, lies and machiavellian ideology to retain power at all cost, putting their loyalty to trump before the Constitution.

(12,553 posts)Again, we can look the other way to feel better about it but it doesnt change reality. While the Hispanic voting population is solidly Democratic, its not a total lock. Trump got a higher percentage of them in 20 than 16. Weird but it happened. And we gotta pay attention.

(29,322 posts)Calling migrants sex offenders is a lie. Their rhetoric is a lie and if they win it will be based on lies. As far as burying heads I dont think Democrats should be saying Mexicans are rapists in order to win the election.
I seen a poll that more Latino voters in Texas favor Democrats immigration policy over Republicans. I doubt the reason why Biden did worse than Clinton and Obama is because of immigration especially since the Obama administration pushed for immigration reform.
Policy positions are fine, lies are not.

(220 posts)can be positive, negative or neutral. The way the issue is written about will influence the perception of the consumer. The guidance in the memo are not 'misleading' and 'provocative' talking points. They are lies, misinformation and disinformation. Why would the NYT not want to be truthful and tell it like it is? Ah, yes. They have to maintain access to the Fear, Fraud and Fascism Party. When that Group Of Pedophiles take over, the free press will disappear quickly.
