Pro-choice protests outside Maryland homes of Justices Roberts and Kavanaugh

"No uterus, no opinion" chanted the crowd that vows to return to the Chevy Chase neighborhood again

CHEVY CHASE, Md. — Rain did not stop dozens of pro-choice protesters that took to the streets of Chevy Chase, Md. to pay a visit to the homes of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“You don’t get to take away my bodily autonomy and get enjoy your Saturday at home. You can do one or the other," said Nikki Enfield who is outraged by the leaked draft opinion indicating the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade., ending the constitutional right to abortion. ... The first stop, Justice Kavanaugh’s home, where chants of "No uterus, no opinion" were greeted by Montgomery County police officers. ... Organizers asked the crowd to continue moving to avoid arrests and allow the flow of traffic in the residential area.

The second stop, Justice Roberts' home where protesters yelled "the world is watching," and where DC Metro police officers were also on standby.

For months Lacie Wooten-Holway has been holding candle light vigils, in front of Justice Kavanagh’s home but since the leak, she says the crowd has gotten bigger. “If you take away our choices, we will riot”, says Wooten-Holway who has had an abortion and is a sexual assault survivor. ... The crowd was received with support from residents and drivers, but organizers say that some neighbors have called their events disrespectful and disruptive. One driver yelled insults and profanity as the crowd headed back to Kavanaugh's house for the second time.

A Planned Parenthood clinic doc lived down the street from me when we lived in Lincoln, NE from 1994-2000. His home was constantly being targeted by protesters. They also targeted his wife's workplace until eventually she was fired because the owner didn't want the attention. They formed huge protest lines on Sundays around the Presbyterian Church where the doc was a deacon. They were totally obnoxious.

It's only fair these "Justices" get a little of the same tactics back. A$$holes. The rapist, the handmaid, Roberts, Thomas, and Alito can all go to hell. Fuck them.

These guys asked for it. They knowingly gave the finger to the vast majority of their fellow citizens. Thomas is even dissing those who disagree, telling them to live with it even if they don't like it. All these years without a peep and now he opens his mouth to say that?. Those that put him and the other hyper-venal mutton heads on the current bench in the first place had/have no consideration for your private individual rights. They have homes as well, you know.

They've placed themselves into everyone's bedroom. Everyone's home is in their sights. Warrantless home invasion, search, seizure and incarceration is essentially already written on EVERYONE'S front door. What's the rationale that deems their homes sacrosanct from protestors? The USSC has stretched their authority to intentionally disrupt the domestic tranquility of the nation. If there's fire, the incendiary device was tossed from their hand.

Ask the suffragettes of a century ago how "non-violently" they were disbursed. Perhaps the Equal Rights Amendment's historic passage.......Oh, I forgot. There is no Equal Rights Amendment to the constitution. But the important thing is, really, to just remain non-violent. Perhaps women should "thoughts and prayer" harder, showing their "deep concern".

How far must it get out of whack before you'd allow that, perhaps, the guilty should live in fear of reprisal?

Just because the RWNJs are jerks does not mean that we must match their intimidating tactics. It won't work. It tarnished our claim to higher ground.

EVERY public servant, even those we don't agree with, deserves privacy and safety in their homes.

This kind of ineffective protest discourages people on both sides from seeking office unless they are rabid radicals.

Spend the energy in more meaningful ways.

Right now it's more moderate to low income women in Red States (Life forbid Congress gets the chance to pass a National abortion ban) that are affected.

I'm just 69, live in a blue City, bluish State but -
I worry about my younger vwomen-sisters in general under various levels of Patriarchal situations regarding no choice among other things. I know a few people (before DU) who live in red States, areas.

But the choice of when or if to have children is SO intense, intimate, life changing; that to be forced to carry a child to term & birth?

It's SO Core... and will effect SO Many people with possible injury, ability to have children later, or even death(!) that -
I'm not not those SCJs deserve completely quiet, cushy evenings at home every night. The effected people certainly won't bc of their actions!

I DO want the protests to be peaceful!
Although I suppose the police coming to remove them may not always be so.

…and we won in 2016 and this court was about to completely uphold a federal ban on all semi-automatic weapons…

…what would some of the reactions here be over crowds of MAGA refusing to hand over those weapons and protesting outside of the justices homes?

Rhetorical question only. I’ve seen the posted reactions to the very idea of gun owners refusing to comply with any proposed ban; so I feel I can accurately guess the reaction to the other side doing this to our judges.

I feel like the sentiment on our side would be just as “take it all” for gun control.

Basically it was always going to come to this sort of chaos for either gun control or abortion depending on who got there first. As it happens, they did (at least in this timeline of you believe in string theory stuff).

I feel like in an alternate version, the left would be as “all in” if they had the chance to ban semi-autos; with absolute desire for the harshest measures against anyone not handing over the semi-autos. Likely threats of involving the military.

Tell me I am wrong and we would have no problem with them acting this way over the highest court saying they have no right to own semi-auto guns.

In 1988, SCOTUS upheld a regulation that barred picketing individual homes.

The regulation was a response to anti-abortion activists who were disrupting and threatening an abortion doctor at his home for months. (1/4)

SCOTUS upheld the reg under the “captive audience” doctrine. The First Amendment generally expects us to make efforts to avoid speech we don’t like. But the captive audience doctrine is a narrow exception. (2/4)

No, Jack. Regardless of what "everyone knows," protesting on public sidewalks is protected speech absent specific intent to impede, obstruct, or interfere with the administration of justice or to intimidate a judge, and nothing will happen to them because of the First Amendment.
