US unveils new sanctions on Russia, targeting services, media and defense industry

The US has unveiled a new layer of sanctions on Russia, targeting services, Russia’s propaganda machine and its defence industry on the eve of Vladimir Putin’s planned Victory Day parade.

The new sanctions include:
*A ban on sales of US services to Russia, like accountancy and management consultancy

*No more US advertising or sales of broadcasting equipment to three Kremlin-controlled television stations

*Technology export bans including industrial engines, bulldozers and other items that can be used by Russian defence factories

The three television networks being sanctioned by the US are Channel One Russia, Television Station Russia-1 and NTV Broadcasting Company. Together, they received more than $300 million in advertising revenue from Western countries just last year, according to the official.

"We're not going to be in the business of helping them broadcast the lies and the deceit that you hear from Putin every day," the (administration) official said.

2. This is great and all

But am I the only one who is a little perplexed when every time some new level of atrocity under Putin happens, they always seem to find a "new layer of sanctions"?

How about all the layers of sanctions, all at once, now? How many more "layers" of sanctions are there that they are waiting on Putin to give them the excuse to use them? Systematically one at a time?
