Senators aim to quickly pass bill to expand security for families of Supreme Court justices

(CNN)Members of the US Senate are aiming to pass a bipartisan bill that would expand security protection to the family members of justices, following protests at some Supreme Court justices' homes over the weekend.

The push in Congress comes one week after Politico's bombshell leaked draft of an opinion, which indicated the Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade as soon as next month.

Sens. John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, and Chris Coons, a Democrat from Delaware, introduced a bipartisan bill called the Supreme Court Police Parity Act, and are hoping to pass the legislation as soon as possible.

"The events of the past week have intensified the focus on Supreme Court Justices' families, who are unfortunately facing threats to their safety in today's increasingly polarized political climate," said Cornyn in a press release. "We must act to ensure Justices and their families are protected from those who wish to cause them harm by extending Supreme Court police security to family members."

Coons added in the release: "If the families of Supreme Court Justices have the same profile and exposure as the highest ranking officials in our government, they deserve the same level of protection. We must take threats that come from extremes on both sides of the political spectrum against Supreme Court Justices seriously, and that makes this bill an unfortunate necessity."......................................

The fences from planned parenthood buildings were removed because the court thought there was freedom of speech. Yet there was a non scalable fence erected outside the court itself after their draft ruling leaked. Make this make sense.

Until they add the part about adding 10 more Justices to expand the Supreme Court.

And add a special clause that if any of them lied at their confirmation hearing, it should be automatic disqualification.

And they should only have a single 8 year term, (staggered introduction if fixed terms), and are not able to get a second term.

They were never concerned about the safety of women having to walk through protestors at Planned Parenthood clinics. Even Democratic men are telling us women we shouldn't be protesting outside their (USSC) houses when they are crawling inside our uteruses, wanting to check our period apps and snoop into our drug store purchases. I'm sick of it all. Even our Democratic "leaders" have failed us women. They had decades and ample opportunity to codify Roe vs Wade. I'm disgusted with Clinton, Obama, Biden (thanks for Clarence Thomas). They're all a bunch of power hungry phoneys who will do and say anything to get elected, then continue to serve their donors and shelve issues that affect ordinary Americans. Those who were supposed to represent us have utterly failed us. I'll continue to vote for the less evil candidate, but my eyes are wide open.

Going to people's homes and following them into spaces where they ought to be able to relax with family or friends is attempting to intimidate.

Sure, it's a tactic the right is very willing to use.

I'd hate to be pursued to my home. Yes, I know it was done to Dr. Blasey-Ford and to the Lt. Governor of Michigan among others. There's a host of names on the right who went through some things too.

If I don't believe it should be able to happen to me, I don't accept any excuse for it happening to others, even those whose views are abhorrent.

No matter how much sympathy I feel for those whose anger against the right wing has cause, the Golden Rule is for hard times like these as well as easier times.
