Maryland's Sen. Chris Van Hollen Treated for Minor Stroke

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen says he has suffered a minor stroke and is being treated at George Washington University Hospital. The Maryland Democrat says he has been told there are no long-term effects or damage.

In a statement Sunday night, Van Hollen said he has been advised by doctors to remain under observation at the hospital for a few days out of an abundance of caution.

Van Hollen, 63, was elected to the Senate in 2016 after serving seven terms in the U.S. House.

The senator said he experienced lightheadedness and acute neck pain while delivering a speech in western Maryland. On the advice of a physician, he sought medical attention upon his return home.

He is part of the class of Senators who are up this term (last elected in 2016) so he has been running for re-election (MD's Primary is in July).

A quick search indicates that he does have a (D) challenger, so I expect the campaigning would have been more intense, especially since this would only be his 2nd election as a Senator (prior to 2016, he was in the House for a bunch of years).

Van Hollen files for re-election to Senate

By Ryan Marshall rmarshall@newspost.com Feb 15, 2022

Citing a need to keep the U.S. Senate in Democratic hands to help President Joe Biden pursue his legislative agenda, Sen. Chris Van Hollen officially filed for reelection Tuesday. “I am running for re-election to the United States Senate to uphold our values of justice, equality, and freedom; to protect our democracy; and to continue to deliver real results for all the people of Maryland,” Van Hollen (D) said in a news release from his office.

While Tuesday’s announcement was expected, it came after Republican Gov. Larry Hogan said he would not run for the seat, despite urging from state and national Republicans to challenge Van Hollen.

Van Hollen cited his work with the Biden administration and Senate Democrats to pass the American Rescue Plan to aid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and a plan to provide infrastructure spending, among other accomplishments.

Prince George’s County Democrat Michelle L. Smith has also filed for the Democratic nomination in the June 28 primary. Eight Republicans have filed for their party’s nomination, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections.

I've never seen a candidate run on a "Thick women's policy initiative before." Usually they have an overarching health platform. Even then, I haven't seen it as an element of such a platform before.

Another unusual element is a page asking any local artists to submit a request and they'll be included in an e-blast so they can get the publicity they deserve.

Blood clots caused by COVID is one of the potential outcomes of infection, depending on where the virus managed to "land" and replicate.

Both Van Holland and Fetterman are running for elections this year (this is only Van Holland's 2nd election for the Senate as he was in the House prior to his initial 2016 election. So he probably didn't have to travel as extensively back then as he is doing now as a Senator.

Fetterman apparently had a known case of A-fib, so it was probably a matter of time. He was running himself ragged traveling back and forth across the state and making it to all 67 counties, plus carrying out his duties as Lt. Governor..

It's no wonder, given what is happening in our country! They have to face the disaster of what the Republicans have done up close and personal!

Fully recovered, but I said it was a "minor" stroke once to my doctor (because I did recover completely) and he frowned at me and said "There's no such thing as a "minor" stroke!"

Then Fetterman, then Van Holland. I guarantee you that Trump has the worst diet and has worse over-all health of any of them. He’s also the eldest.
I don’t get it.

Jesus, Mohammed, Yahweh, Invisible Cloud Daddy, somebody, please hear my prayers!
