Some children hid from the killer under tables, while others faked their deaths by smearing blood on themselves. Some were shot multiple times.
When I heard the shooting through the door, I told my friend to hide under something so he wont find us, said the boy, who was not identified.
Eleven-year-old Miah Cerillo survived by smearing her friends blood on herself and playing dead, her aunt, Blanca Rivera, told NBC News. She was hospitalized with bullet fragments in her back but has since been released, Rivera said.
Adam Pennington, 8, told The Times that he was in the principals office shortly before the shooting and heard the principal answer a phone call from someone who had seen the gunman approaching.
Somebody jumped the fence just now holding a gun, Adam said he heard the caller say.

(29,205 posts)physically... yes...
but no, not really. There will be dozens to hundreds more victims.
In a way, all of us are victims of this.

(15,222 posts)While I am actually impressed with the ability of that child to think of doing that in that horrific moment, and I am so grateful she lived, I cannot imagine the horror that she must have endured to force her to do such a thing.
I am so sorry, little one.

On Lawrence tonight, he said one of the surviving kids talked about the gunman saying--"Its time to die."

Something has to change.

(100,080 posts)And the gun humpers can honestly fuck off with that "shall not be infringed" bullshit. I've had enough. It's time to start infringing.
I'm with you. I've had it with these freakin' gun humpers and I won't stay silent. I say infringe away! If someone owns one of these baby killers, make a law where they can look them up if they registered it and get a warrant to take it away. I don't care who the f*** that person is. Gather them all up and macerate them all. One at a time, rid our country of these killing machines.

Devastatingly literal in this case.

(41,145 posts)kids did to survive, their experiences and that of many others needs to be produced and circulated widely.
This society has become a barbaric, living nightmare with casualties mounting yearly. It must be exposed, over and over, and ended.

(21,487 posts)with filmmakers, scriptwriters?
This begs for a graphic, realistic film to drive home the insanity of putting gun ownership above the lives of children.

(21,487 posts)The focus would be on the humanity of the victims, the innocent happiness of knowing that school would be out for summer in 2 days, on the achievements of the honor roll kids and how proud they and their parents were of their achievrments.
The film that I have in mind would show the front of the school with its sign, Bienvenidos (Welcome). It would take the viewer into the the lives of the teachers and children prior to the massacre, and follow through with how they felt throughout the ordeal. Children hiding and trembling, teachers guarding them and dying. The students under the table who watched in silent terror as their classmates and teachers were gunned down.
It would all be from the perspective of the victims and survivors and their families.
But it would not whitewash or sanitize what it looked and felt like. It would be realistic, but the gore would not sensationalized for its own sake. It would be secondary to the people themselves.
A good scriptwriter, cinematographer, director, and actors could do this with the right focus to make viewers actually live through the event themselves, drawing them into it so that no one could ever again discuss gun control with abstract indifference and 2nd amendment ideology as if discussing the weather report.

(2,823 posts)I heard on Marketplace an economist explain that in a mass school shooting, even where no one is killed, the kids involved lose two years of schooling. Most are actually held back two years. Many do not go on to graduate high school. Those that do graduate high school don't go on to college. Over the course of a life time, it will cost them 100'000 of lost earning dollars. If that doesn't sound like a republican way to keep people in a slavery-sharecropper like situation, I don't know what does. No wonder they want everybody armed and angry all the time. YMMV

(1,060 posts)there have been approximately 318,000 school shooting surviving children since Columbine. Look at that number!
318,000
And it goes up almost weekly. That many kids with PTSD in the USA is probably more than the number of soldiers with it.

(30,745 posts)My son was in a combined third and fourth grade classroom. There were not enough third graders for two full classes. They took some of the third graders who were gifted in math. Those students were in the fourth grade classroom all day, making it easier for them to take fourth grade math. It worked out well. My son liked his classmates and his teacher.
