Multiple people were shot on Saturday night during an exchange of gunfire in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, police said.
Chattanooga Police officers were patrolling downtown at about 10:48 p.m. local time when they "observed multiple parties exchanging gunfire and numerous people fleeing the area."
"Our Officers began rendering aid to the victims as well as assisting others to safety," a police spokesperson said. "They were able to detain at least one person of interest in the incident in the moments after the shooting began."
Police said "several" gunshot victims were transported to local hospitals. Most of the victims were in their teens or early 20s, police said.

(17,938 posts)and a whole host of supposedly wild west municipalities, drop off your firearms with local law enforcement a receive and check for retrieval when you left town. Open and concealed carry was illegal in many places. Dodge City's first municipal law was gun control within the town limits. Unlike today, few made a fuss about it and even fewer whipped out a copy of the US Constitution that they barely understood at best. The "wild" in the wild west was an eastern concoction and much of the time, the west was as boring as the east.

(12,395 posts)a desire to own a gun. Youngest boy in college housing in Florida, granddaughter businesswoman shares house with friend in downtown Cincinnati, oldest boy lives in upscale neighborhood in Indianapolis. All state that it never crossed their minds to go out and purchase a gun, even though the two oldest were raised on a farm and rifles were used by their father to chase away coyotes and other predatory animals.
So I dont understand what makes a person suddenly think
I need to own and carry around a tool in my purse or pocket that can blow somebodys head off.
I just dont get it.

(5,849 posts)It's sheer logic. If everybody is carrying a gun, the higher likelihood that someone will start shooting in response to something.
After every single mass shooting gun sales go up. And gun restrictions keep being loosened. The result is that a whole lot of people are carrying guns. Every time one of them gets pissed off, they have a killing machine. People used to settle disputes with their fists, with knives. Now more people have the means to shoot indiscriminately, and that's what we see every single weekend.
