WHEN WILL IT END?
Updated May. 30, 2022 12:05PM ET /
Mass shootings might often prompt cries of never again, but unfortunately that ship has already sailed. The Washington Post reports that this Memorial Day weekend alone has seen at least 11 mass shootings, defined by the Gun Violence Archive as incidents in which four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter. At least seven people were killed and 49 injured this weekend. In one incident, a 16-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman were killed at a Philadelphia party. Guns are now the leading cause of death among young people in the U.S., and the number continues to steadily climb, NPR reports. Since the massacre at Uvalde, Texas Robb Elementary School that killed 19 children and two teachers last Tuesday, the U.S. has seen at least 14 mass shootings, which have killed at least 10 people and wounded 61 others, the Post reports.

(22,143 posts)'more guns!', 'more guns!', that they claim, w/o evidence to back them, that more guns are better.
No, more guns doesn't not create a more safe environment, hasn't this been proven over and over again?
And this argument that 'mental health' is key to gun ownership, blah, blah, blah? If so, where are the needed therapists to evaluate if and when someone can own a gun? Where are the laws that demand that a two week course in gun ownership be undertaken by the prospective gun owner? Where are the 'mental health' evaluations that should be undertaken by professionals and those prospective gun owners?
it's the needing of more safeguards, more barriers to promote proper gun ownership and gun handling, and all that goes w/ gun ownership as so many of us already know, by the millions and millions in this Country, not the insane reverse of what we are seeing. This stupid argument of 'more guns' falls flat on its face in the presence of so much evidence to the contrary.
After all, I would trust one person who has completed such comprehensive training far more with their one gun than an untrained kid who just walked into the store, plunked down the money for two AR15s, wham, bam, the purchase is done, and then a couple of days later, these 19 young children and teachers (2) are murdered.
As the article said, 11 mass shootings. Are there that many young men who are frustrated etc. by Society (mostly young men that do the shootings) and expect Society to give them a million bucks w/o working for it, that life will go like a charm, etc.? Life is hard, and all of us know it, but still do the dance.

(16,975 posts)We have people wanting the schools more secure, the teachers and staffed armed, have kids wear body armor, and carry weapons, vigilantes with guns. None of these solutions are sensible. They are the fantasties of childish minds that want their reality, and instead of understanding that their fantasy is dangerous and untenable, they keep offering more and more outrageous solutions that won't work in this world. They have elected r's that are worse than lenient, irresponsible paretns. The elected r's favor a deranged segment of their base at the expense of the rest of the citizens of this country. None of the lame ass childish suggestions to protect vulnerable groups of people so they can keep their gd guns are going to work. And anyone who thinks the suggestions put forth might make a dent in the mass killings are as demented as the gun lovers.
Ban the fully automatic weapons. Word the legislation so that there is an exception for owning guns that don't fire as many bullets as fast as the fully automatic weapons that manaics get hold of to murder innocents. (I'd be happy to see an expansive gun ban, because there are too many childish minds out there, but that won't happen) If people who already own gd fully automatic weapons would agree to background checks with annual updates, let them hang onto their treasures more valuable than life itself. If I can think of what I would see as reasonable ideas for gun control, so can elected r's. But they don't want to, because they love being responsible for murder without being convicted of a crime.

(12,816 posts)"When Will It End" implies that we the people have a passive relationship to "it."
And this incredible fact just bears repeating: "Guns are now the leading cause of death among young people in the U.S."
