The White House will be paying their interns for the first time in history!
In a statement Thursday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris announced the White House Internship Program, which is set to begin in Fall 2022.
According to the release, the funds for the program "come from bipartisan legislation that the President was proud to sign earlier this year."
"Too often, unpaid federal internships have been a barrier to hardworking and talented students and professionals, preventing them from contributing their talents and skills to the country and holding them back from federal career advancement opportunities," the statement said.

(70,127 posts)this is my absolute pet peeve. unless you are getting college credit, and even then, they should be outlawed.
i went to the school of the art institute, and the museum loves to hire the grads. but a 6 mo unpaid internship is pretty much the price of a job. i got a certificate in design and they hire a lot of designers. they were hiring when i got it. i could have rly used the job. but that was the rub.
a stipend is the absolute minimum. and/or money for college for these kind of jobs.

Of course the obvious caveat is that you'd have to live in the D.C. metro area (or at least in commuting distance) during that time (if you don't already live there).

that is now open to those who dont have a rich daddy to support them.
Speaking as someone who worked my way thru college as a sales clerk, I remember simply being baffled at the very idea of an unpaid internship when I was scraping for rent and groceries. Young as I was, I realized there was a world I could never enter.
This sounds great.
