Kathy Hochul is Democratic nominee for New York governor

NEW YORK (AP) — Kathy Hochul won the Democratic nomination for New York governor Tuesday, setting her on an expected path to win the governor’s office in November.

Hochul beat back primary challenges from New York City’s elected public advocate, Jumaane Williams, and U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi, a moderate from Long Island.

Democrats have more than twice as many registered voters as Republicans in the state and are expected to keep the governor’s mansion this fall, which they’ve held since 2007.

Hochul has served as New York’s governor since August 2021, when then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned amid a sexual harassment scandal.

1. Not really much of a surprise

Rep. Tom Suozzi is a bit of a disappointment. He didn't have a chance in this primary and it was mildly divisive for the state party. He did the same thing about a dozen years ago when he challenged Elliot Spitzer for the nomination. I know that that's the nature of politics but Rep/ Suozzi's behavior doesn't represent a team player.

I knew Tom when he was the Mayor of Glen Cove, NY when his son was in my Scout troop. One night around a campfire, we got to talking and I asked him what was his ambition. He paused, looked me in the eye and said essentially, "Every politician has one goal: the presidency."

2. I was disappointed that Suozzi went negative for this campaign. It surprised me.

I wish he were running for the House.

Jumaane Williams is the WFP candidate, so he'll be on the ballot in November. The last thing we need this years is a third party candidate who will siphon away potential Democratic votes.

5. I voted, we heard there wasn't much of a turnout, not a big surprise

I was happy to vote for Antonio Delgado, we used to see his campaign ads here when he was running for Congress and I wished he was running here - we need to unseat Stefanik.

13. My H was a poll worker in my town.

Several districts vote at the polling place where he was. Only 400 people showed up and he said most were old (60+).

But, out of those 400ish voters only 8 asked for a Republican primary ballet. 😃

I’m in the Capital District but in a suburban town that is very heavily Democratic.

12. I've known Suozzi for years and work with his office frequently

This is just like him. His ego is boundless.
He screwed us three ways to Sunday.
Made a seat that was likely to stay Democratic much more likely to flip because it's now a vacancy. The Democratic nominee is Bridget Fleming, who I've also worked with for years when she was in the SuffolkCountylegislature.. She is a very tough, a former prosecutor, a bright no nonsense woman, but she is from Southampton on the east fork and is pretty much unknown outside her area, which is a pretty small part of the district.
Her opponent was the Republican commissioner of the county board of elections. This seat could very easily flip.
So he screwed us there. And then in his quixotic quest to be governor, finishing a solid 3rd out of 3, hr ran a divise and inflammatory campaign against Governor Hochul, damaging her and giving Lee Zeldin premade campaign ads, showing Democratic disunity.

Lee Zeldin is a toxic trump/DeSantis clone. And Suozzi's egomaniac campaign will help him.
