Elizabeth Warren beats Scott Brown in Massachusetts Senate race
Source: Boston Globe
Democrat Elizabeth Warren, the Harvard Law professor who promised to battle for a struggling middle class, defeated incumbent Republican Scott Brown tonight in the Massachusetts Senate race, despite Browns attempts to paint himself as a one of a dying breed, a moderate New England Republican.
The victory by Warren, who made history as the first woman elected to serve as a US senator from Massachusetts, marked a comeback by the states Democrats after Browns bruising 2010 upset win in a special election to fill the seat left vacant by liberal lion Edward M. Kennedy.
In a hard-fought race that drew national attention, the two candidates had crisscrossed the state, aired tough TV ads, and tangled in three heated debates, while spending some $70 million between them.
In other races, President Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney handily in traditionally blue Massachusetts, even though Romney is a former Bay State governor and planned to hold his election night party here.

Like that qualifies him for the Senate!
Go back to your garage home office, Scottie; hopefully you'll eschew foreclosures in your pissy little real estate law job. Or maybe, since your wife is the only one with a decent job now, you'll move to DC for real and become a sleazy lobbyist--that seems right up your alley.

(2,769 posts)The Globe is already suggesting that Brown probably will run for John Kerry's seat if Kerry is appointed Secretary of State in Obama's administration.
It never ends.

Deval could appoint HIMSELF. That would work for me.

(59,504 posts)Not to mention, Brown out of office is not the same as Brown as the incumbent. It may be that his loss may lower his appeal to many people. The other thing is that Brown may have a problem with the fact that if he ran and won, he again would be the most junior Senator there is. This would make it less likely that he would speak to heads of state, Kings and Queens and Obama and the Secretary of State. (Maybe he really wants to be like John Kerry, for whom all these things and being a chair of a powerful committee, is true.) In addition, Kerry's seat is up in 2014 so he would have to run again next time - and likely lose to the SAME argument that the balance of power (in 2014) would be at stake. Though it does seem like he wants to be Senator.
Brown seems to be both an egomaniac and to have a fragile self esteem. Why else would he make the types of things up that he does? It may be that he would want people to beg him to run and that he wants the status of being Senator.

(135,425 posts)He was anti-woman, anti-minority, anti-human decency. He PRETENDED to be "bipartisan" but he was a tool of the right. His appeal was to dull, overweight, racist white male drunkards and their spouses/girlfriends with low self esteem and no sense of personal dignity or self-worth.
Don't you remember his bullshit mocking of EW? All that "Pow Wow, the Indian Boy" war whooping racist bullshit? Don't you remember his condescending way of say "Perfesser"--mocking the fact that EW, child of a frigging janitor, managed to educate herself to the point where she was sought after to teach as a professor at Harvard? Don't you remember his snide insinuations about how EW wasn't "one of us" because she was born in Oklahoma? All the while, this asshole is touting Money Booboo, a jerk from Michigan by way of Utah who spent more time in his lake mansion in NH than he EVER did in MA. Fucking HYPOCRITE.
He can take that pick up truck of his, and that barn coat, and stuff it up his ass. Fuck that racist, sexist, bullshitting piece of shit. I hope the door hits him on the way out, the noxious blowhard.
Sorry, don't mean to be harsh, but the only thing to "like" about Scott Brown is that he is going home to his halfassed little home office in his stupid garage. I'll bet his wife is bummed--she might lose her new job, since she's no longer the influential wife of a Senator...she shoulda stuck to her gig in Boston.
