Pelosi receives Communion in Vatican amid abortion debate

ROME (AP) — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Pope Francis on Wednesday and received Communion during a papal Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, witnesses said, despite her position in support of abortion rights.

Pelosi attended the morning Mass marking the feasts of St. Peter and St. Paul, during which Francis bestowed the woolen pallium stole on newly consecrated archbishops. She was seated in a VIP diplomatic section of the basilica and received Communion along with the rest of the congregants, according to two people who witnessed the moment.

Pelosi’s home archbishop, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, has said he will no longer allow her to receive the sacrament in his archdiocese because of her support for abortion rights. Cordileone, a conservative, has said Pelosi must either repudiate her support for abortion or stop speaking publicly of her Catholic faith.

Pelosi was banned from taking communion by her SF bishop, so she had to go to Rome. Just goes to prove that rich women will be able to get communion regardless.

Edit: I was trying to make a comment about Pelosi's boss move by going over the Bishop's head and going to his' boss, as well as a sad comment on the state of abortion law as it currently exists in my state. I'm leaving the comment for context but I didn't mean anything against Pelosi.

4. Used to have to have fasted for 3 hours prior but that was changed years ago.

I imagine once per day is still the rule.

My dad always told me watchimg ND football on Saturday meets your Sunday obligation to attend mass.

Cordileone is an ultra-conservative and was passed over for a promotion for someone who is not so rigid. The Pope is his boss.

In addition there are a number of diplomatic reasons why (aside from religion) an American or other foreign leader would visit the Pope. Nancy Pelosi is not just “a rich woman.” She is the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, second in line to succeed the President (no matter who the President may be) .

That asshole Bishop was bypassed by the Pope, and for all you know she got invited to attend. Surely you can't just show up and sit in the VIP section.

Francis stuck his foot in his mouth recently by saying that Ukraine somehow invited the invasion by provocation, and so you just never know what diplomacy may occur, seeing as how millions of people were pissed off that he made nicey nice with Putin. Handing out symbolic wafers to one of our warriors is a small thing.

98% of women use birth control at some point in their lives. This includes all the woman who want to tell others not to get an abortion.
So stop giving women on birth control communion. They are killing babies by using birth control.
