Highland Park parade mass shooting was planned for weeks, gunman fired over 70 rounds

Source: ABC News

Authorities believe Monday's mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, had been planned for weeks, and they say more than 70 rounds were fired from the gunman's high-powered rifle. Six people were killed and over 30 were injured in the suburban Chicago shooting, which police described as a "random act of violence."

The 21-year-old suspect, Robert "Bobby" Crimo III, is accused of opening fire from a roof of a business, which he accessed from a fire escape ladder, police said. It appears Crimo bought the high-powered rifle legally in Illinois, police said. Police said Crimo wore women's clothing during the shooting to apparently allow him to hide his facial tattoos and blend in with the crowd to flee.

"Following the attack Crimo exited the roof, he dropped his rifle and he blended in with the crowd and he escaped," police said Tuesday. "He walked to his mother's home who lived in the area and he blended right in with everybody else." No motive is known, police said. Crimo -- who was apprehended Monday evening after an hours-long manhunt -- is believed to be linked to social media posts that discuss or depict acts of violence, including shooting people, a law enforcement source briefed on the case told ABC News.

Analysts say Crimo appears to have had an extensive online presence that was littered with signs of hatred, mental health issues and a gravitation toward hard-right and neo-fascist ideologies. Crimo had been living with his uncle, Paul Crimo, but the two barely interacted beyond exchanging hellos, Paul Crimo told ABC News.

I can sort of understand how someone would snap and go after his enemies, but just going out to some public venue and shooting a mass of people. And of source the assault guns are perfect for this. Fuck these 2nd amendment assholes.

Justice matters.

The 10th congressional district of Illinois lies in the northeast corner of the state, and mostly comprises northern suburbs of Chicago. It was created after the 1860 census. The district is currently represented by Democrat Brad Schneider.

I've even heard assholes claim careful pre-meditated planning proves mental health issues instead of terrorism or pre-meditated mass murder. As if terrorists don't plan out their attacks and post videos online.

Earlier Tuesday, investigators said Highland Park police had in 2019 confiscated 16 knives, a dagger and a sword from Crimo’s residence after a family member told officers he had threatened to “kill everyone,” said Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

At the time, Covelli said, there was no probable cause to arrest Crimo, no evidence that he possessed firearms and no complaints were signed by any victims. Earlier that year, an individual reported to police that Crimo had attempted suicide, Covelli said.

Crimo purchased five firearms, including rifles and handguns after he threatened to “kill everyone” in an incident at his home, the police said.

Their goal is not civilized debate. They want to trip you up on terminology and then claim you're unqualified to even have an opinion.

We're pretty locked in to this futile, tragic cycle, and anything more restrictive is unconstitutional.

The 2nd Amendment is a suicide pact.

(and that with $4 will get you coffee) is that there are mechanisms in place to ensure that they will be famous and their deeds will be broadcast from coast to coast for several days. If they media doesn't pick up the story, their ability to livestream their actions will feed their need to become well known, something that they couldn't be without such acts.

Here's a prescient research article with suggestions to law enforcement for catching mass murderers who are pushed to acting out on their extremism by the "alt-right pipeline". Perhaps this could be tied in with "red flag" legislation:

(5) Understand the traits of the extremist-troll boundary and attempt to identify individuals who may be nudged along the alt-right pipeline to extremism.

The extremist-troll boundary framework laid out in Chapter III presents one theory of how an alt-right individual can advance from online trolling to a heinous attack. In all the alt-right attacks with relevant data, the attackers went through all three phases of the pipeline. School administrators and intelligence analysts should be aware of these three characteristics. Law enforcement agencies that engage in countering violent extremism and deradicalization programs should ensure the programs include efforts to counter the threat posed by alt-right extremism. Training and presentations provided to school administrators should include a discussion of alt-right jargon and how individuals become progressively radicalized.

Why is this a fucking footnote? Why is this not a bigger part of the story? In every mass shooting in the last 10 years, all of the guns were bought legally. Because of the NRA's bullshit "shall not be infringed" stance. Why can't we nail them to the curb more on this?
