Russia warns humanity at risk if West seeks to punish it over Ukraine

KYIV/KRAMATORSK (Reuters) - Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said attempts by the West to punish a nuclear power such as Russia for the war in Ukraine risked endangering humanity, as the near five-month conflict leaves cities in ruins and thousands homeless.

Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine has triggered the most serious crisis in relations between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, when many people feared the world was on the brink of nuclear war.

U.S. President Joe Biden says Russian President Vladimir Putin is a war criminal and has led the West in arming Ukraine and imposing crippling sanctions on Russia.

"The idea of punishing a country that has one of the largestnuclear potentials is absurd. And potentially poses a threat tothe existence of humanity," Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on Telegram on Wednesday.

There they go again with their nuclear threats. So, just let them take control over the whole world because the world needs more of the delusional and deranged behavior, which is evidently rampaging throughout the kremlin.

Just checked the link on this article and the link works, but goes to a different article. It worked OK when I posted. So I went directly to Reuters and searched. Reuters has a different headline but same article. Next time, I go directly to Reuters.

The U.S. has "the most destructive weapons system made by human kind" in its arsenal. We never have to rattle the saber because we don't need to. Putin's weekly nuclear threats are tiresome and non-productive.

overthrown and the country given back to the people of Russia, trying and sentencing all the organized criminals "oligarchs" to prison. Only then can the world move on. If Putin simply dies, another look-alike pops up. Navalny and others are the needed leaders of Russia at this time, to end this madness.

If Russia takes the correct steps after Putin croaks - and we all hope it's soon - then NATO might consider establishing normal relations with them again.

is already a lost cause. Their economy is going to take years to come back to anywhere close to "normal." Putin has ruined that country for absolutely nothing. He's bombed Ukraine; killed Ukrainians. Destroyed the economy of Russia; probably starved to death some of his own Russian people by now; and that's not even mentioning the numbers of Russian soldiers he's killed in war. And, like I said... for absolutely nothing. It's been a vanity war for Putin, as far as I can tell. He wanted to get back at Hillary. She wasn't even in Government any longer. He wanted to put the final kabosh to the U.S. Well, he probably did accomplish that... but he had a hell of a lot of help from the Republican party and the Evangelical, Hard Catholic, and Dominionist religions to get that done.

So, it probably cost him a heck of a lot of bribe money to get it done. Those connections I DO hope we categorically make crystal clear in some hearing at some point! And I don't care who we capture in them. Let the chips fall as they may. We've had some Democrats who've taken money from the religious groups that need to be called out, I believe. They've not done near as much... but they kept them in government when they these faith dealers should have been shown the door. I want everything out in the open; and then the wall between church and state raised high, wide, and deep between the two. That includes a real re-examination of these mega-churches and the tax exemption, in particular. Any "church" that has multiple limos, planes, mansions, etc., needs to pay taxes. They're not a church - they're a business.

of their nuclear threat. They hadn't done it for awhile, so bring it back out. It used to work on us.

Offering to commit suicide is not much of a deterrent.

Putin has harmed his country, and has placed it in the position of a pariah. He thinks he can wage war and then be treated as they might have been. Good luck with that.

One nation under the treaty is free to attack another neighbouring country because if the other side tries to fight back they will nuke them and start a nuclear war.

Just a bizarre and twisted interpretation of it.

There should be a world wide effort to rid the world of all nuclear weapons, but that probably won't happen. sigh. Failing that its inevitable that if its not Putin, some other deranged leader will use one if they are not gotten rid of.

Saying that, Ukraine, and the west in general, simply cannot be bullied into just laying down and being taken over by brutality and dictatorship. Its scary but we have to call their bluff. And have faith that saner heads, even in Russia, will prevail.
