Ruling clears Louisiana to enforce near-total abortion ban

Source: Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana can now enforce its ban on almost all abortions under a judge’s order issued Friday amid a flurry of court challenges to state “trigger” laws crafted to take effect when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

The decision came the same day President Joe Biden issued an executive order to protect access to abortion in states where it is still legal and mitigate the potential penalties women seeking the procedure may face after the high court’s ruling on June 24.

Days after the Supreme Court decision, Louisiana District Judge Robin Giarrusso issued a temporary restraining order banning enforcement of the state legislation in response to a lawsuit filed by a north Louisiana abortion clinic and others.

State District Judge Ethel Julien said Friday that she did not have the authority to extend the restraining order because she had concluded the suit should not have been filed in her court. She said the suit’s claims that provisions in the law are unconstitutionally vague and inconsistent are matters involving legislation, and therefore should be heard in state court in the capital, Baton Rouge.

Anything anyone dumps in a river between the Rockies and the Appalachians ends up in Louisiana.

But, I do hope that the female population of that state (and all of those who agree with this Dark Ages bullshit) will decide not to 'put out' at all. Just remove the ability to get laid. Watch how long this stupid crap lasts once they organize and actually do this. Either the rethugs will have to literally legalize rape, or they will have to capitulate. Straight men usually do not like having to use their own hands too often.

Paid parental leave, expanded free daycare, state-funded prenatal care, etc. etc. be introduced? I don't think I'll hold my breath.

Baton Rouge to Asheville is over 700 miles. And that is if NC stays in the camp of allowing abortions.

in a state where the state legislature is so unstable and tied to religious extremism. Companies like stable environments where they open/run a business. They like states that are friendly and stable. This ain't either.

I will always make the argument for women's rights but I also believe such rights affect all of us. We must ALL stand for women's rights.

Turning women into objects for more abuse.

The horrors that religion visits upon human kind from witch trails to female slavery to antisemitism to child abuse and forced birth. And these are only the Christian churches horrors. I don't list the horrors of all the other religions like polygamy and child brides.

Why do humans still follow these ridiculously abusive superstitions? There is no valid evidence for a god but people are willing to torture others for that god.

Miami and New Orleans, less than 20 years before both underwater or flooded to Oblivion?

Out west a tiny bit worried about drought.

Balance is off duty apparently.
