Haiti gang violence: UN votes to ban small arms sales

Source: BBC

The UN Security Council has voted unanimously to ban some weapon sales to Haiti, rocked by deadly gang violence.

The resolution calls on UN member states to prohibit the sale of small arms, light weapons and ammunition to what it calls "non-state actors".

But a proposal by China for a full embargo on weapon sales was rejected.

Since last week, 89 people have been killed in the Port-au-Prince capital region alone. Aid agencies say many areas are now dangerous to access.

could we ask the UN to please come and help us ban these?

I'm being serious but I know that it's a fantasy.

Has anyone calculated how many rounds of human-killing ammunition are available in the US? Some sitting safely in locked boxes, some just in a hunting vest or under some floorboards. Some being stockpiled for the "big one". Much in multi-round carbines.

Any good scientific studies on how many Americans can be killed with all this ammo and given a certain misfire/mis-aim rate? Seems like a good way for the NRA/russians/repuglicons to fund some new studies on how much more armament we need to get in the hands of "patriots" in order to wipe out all enemies.

of life! Who would imagine that happening? Look at Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. Guns make existing problems escalate.

Just a matter of proximity to major manufacturers.

Somebody please refute this if I'm wrong.
