Trump Tells Team He Needs to Be President Again to Save Himself from Criminal Probes

Source: Rolling Stone

When Donald Trump formally declares his 2024 candidacy, he won’t just be running for another term in the White House. He’ll be running away from legal troubles, possible criminal charges, and even the specter of prison time.

snip

Trump has “spoken about how when you are the president of the United States, it is tough for politically motivated prosecutors to ‘get to you,” says one of the sources, who has discussed the issue with Trump this summer. “He says when [not if] he is president again, a new Republican administration will put a stop to the [Justice Department] investigation that he views as the Biden administration working to hit him with criminal charges — or even put him and his people in prison.”

snip

Trump’s most recent legal headaches stem from his role in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection. Capitol and Washington, D.C. Metropolitan police officers have sued Trump over the physical and emotional damages they suffered during the rioting. The former president also faces two separate suits from Democratic members of Congress. The suits accuse the president of violating their civil rights by conspiring with extremist groups such as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to prevent the count of electoral votes.

snip

In the face of the investigations, many in Trumpworld have hoped that former aides could face prosecution for the efforts to overturn the election instead of the former president. In particular, Trump associates have tried to distance him from Eastman. And as Rolling Stone, reported last week Trump’s legal advisors also view former chief of staff Mark Meadows as a potential fall guy for the former president’s post-election activities.

They're all in it up to their necks. Somehow they think if he's protected from prosecution, they are too.

All the more reason to indict him no matter whether he's running or not.

Bannon may soon go to jail. I use the word "soon" loosely. Of course Bannon would not be going to jail were it not for the select committee, so I can only give DOJ partial credit. Waiting to see how long his sentence is. I guarantee he will not get 2 years even with his showing no remorse.

I would not be surprised if Bannon was allowed to run his pod cast from his jail cell.

$1,000 fine and 1 year in jail. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets less than 6 months.

I kind of think this is why so many others weren't referred for prosecution, the sentence would be minimal and the discovery process would reveal evidence the J6 committee had collected that they might not have wanted to be public yet. (at that stage of the investigation, they are going public now that they are ready)

I think if a president only serves one term and is voted out after that first term, they should not be allowed to run for a second term-especially if they have committed multiple crimes.

We have to pay the Secret Service to be there, anyway; just give them a new mission. The important thing is that he must not ever again get near a political office.

It won't work, jackass. There's absolutely nothing you can offer the country but more divisiveness and robbery from the American taxpayers.

I'm willing to bet he'll flee the country rather than face long overdue justice for his crimes. He's not man enough to take responsibility for his heinous actions.

Maybe use a “2” so it reads:

Resonates more with young, hip people.

He would have three goals if ever elected.

1. Stop any further investigations against him. And provide for a lifetime exception from all criminal charges.

2. Change the presidency to a lifelong dictatorship.

3. Grift the U.S. Treasury and demand payments to him from foreign governments that want our help.

In a word, he wants to be an oligarch like Putin, a billionaire by any means necessary.

... prosecute a sitting President and by blocking the release of all of the Mueller report.

BTW In front of Congress Mueller said that there were 10 solid cases of obstruction of
justice by Trump that should be prosecuted once Trump leaves office. Garland let the
statute of limitations run out on those charges.
