Fox News 'fails to adhere to basic journalistic standards', says

Source: Press Gazett-UK

Fox News‘ credibility score has been downgraded to “red” by media watchdog Newsguard, meaning it “fails to adhere to several basic journalistic standards”.

Fox has had an overall passing score since the ratings agency launched in 2018. (Disclosure: the author of this story, Bron Maher, was formerly a Newsguard employee.)

......The score dropped further this week because Newsguard ruled that Fox’s website no longer met its standard for publishing corrections.

Newsguard writes in its updated review for Fox News: “In previous reviews of foxnews.com, Newsguard found that while the site had published false claims on significant topics that were uncorrected, that because foxnews.com regularly published other corrections, and because the false claims did not appear to occur frequently, foxnews.com did not fail Newsguard’s standard for having effective corrections practices.”

Now, however, the credibility rater says it has found “that foxnews.com published uncorrected significantly false claims at a much more frequent rate than in previous reviews”.

I've gone a little further and I don't use the word "news" after Fox at all anymore. Call it Fox Drivel, Fox Garbage, but don't call it "news" since it's not, never has been and never will be. As someone who worked at a metro daily newspaper for over 35 years, I can say without a doubt that those of us who work or worked in the profession think the fact Fox pretends to be a fountain of journalism is a laugher if what they've done to the business, to the country and the world as a whole isn't so sad. I hope that when their cable negotiations come up soon as I read they will that cable outlets will do to them what has been done to OANN and shut them off.

Fox News is not a news organization

https://www.politicususa.com/2022/07/21/fox-news-not-trustworthy.html

Newsguard has downgraded Fox News from a trustworthy green rating to red proceed with caution.

Here is the downgrade of Fox News:

The rationale for downgrading Fox News was, “In previous reviews of foxnews.com, Newsguard found that while the site had published false claims on significant topics that were uncorrected, that because FoxNews.com regularly published other corrections, and because the false claims did not appear to occur frequently, foxnews.com did not fail Newsguard’s standard for having effective corrections practices.”.....

Fox News being downgraded is a big deal because it confirms that Fox’s media properties have moved more toward misinformation and away from journalism practices.

Fox has been misleading viewers for years, but they have moved into misinformation and are no longer recognized as a trusted news source by objective third-party standards.

since it seems Orwellian, like the old Soviet "Pravda". Fox News should be relegated to tabloid status at best.

Here goes my rant…

Honestly, I’m sick about reading about Fox News and hearing the same things about how much of an opinion-spewing shithole it is.

Yes. We know. It has been that way for years.

Why are there so many posts about it? Is this new information for some people?

I mean, honestly. I’m so over hearing about Fox News.

I used to talk about politics with a good friend. But it became so annoying when he would insert what Fox News “would say” or what Matt Gaetz would say, etc. The conversations became repetitive and obnoxious, because I just don’t care about Fox and what it pushes. I already have seen this movie. Over and over and over again.

The useless Fox posts are among the many topics where people repost a predictable tweet from a Republican and act like they’re shocked at the hypocrisy.

Spoiler alert: They are hypocrites. They don’t care. Their followers don’t care. And I don’t care to keep reading about their every fart in the wind.

I’m grateful for DU’s trash thread feature.
