Nearly 17.7 million watched the second prime-time Jan. 6 hearing

Source: Washington Post

Nearly 17.7 million television viewers tuned in Thursday to the second prime-time hearing in the House select committee’s investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Nielsen rating service announced Friday. The number, which encompasses 10 broadcast and cable networks, represents a slight drop from the more than 20 million people who watched the first prime-time hearing in June.

According to ratings data Friday provided by some of the individual networks, MSNBC led the pack with an average of 4.7 million viewers for the high-profile programming block from 8 to 11 p.m. Similar to their plans for the June 9 hearing, major broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC booted other programming to make space for the congressional proceedings; ABC led the three with roughly 3.98 million viewers, while NBC attracted 2.69 million and CBS 2.68 million. July tends to be the lowest-rated month in television.

Fox News did not show the hearing and instead aired its usual programming featuring Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. The network reported 2.66 million viewers during Thursday’s prime-time block. Fox News Media opted to instead air the hearing on the lesser-watched channel Fox Business.

But, his avoidance garbage time show was outviewed by MSNBC/CNN combined by about 4:1.

We've got 3 1/2 months to continue to rev our base up for November and the Republicans seem determined to help.

But I thought they said it was down a bit from the 1st prime time airing, not the "largest audience yet" as per MSNBC?

Whatever, it's the best indictment yet of that orange idiot, and it would seem the DOJ is getting it with Garland repeating his vow that no one was above the law.

Unless the guy is a complete liar like (fairly) recent RW extremist applicants to the SCOTUS, which I don't believe as of this moment he is, this bodes well for Justice and the rule of law. I'm slightly guardingly encouraged (is that even a thing?) about the future now.

Let's see what they can do now to discourage this.

13. 'It's weakened him in a massive way'-Former TFG official claims J6 hearings are crippling his future

The J6 hearings are having an effect

According to Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump White House communications official, the damage inflicted by the committee's televised hearings have already taken their toll.

“I think it’s weakened him in a massive way. It reminds people of the drama and the four years of having to explain why they supported him,” she explained.

"It’s not him versus Biden," she explained about a possible presidential rematch on 2024. "Do they really want to go back through that whole fiasco? They’re also reminded of the noise and the drama and the division. We can support someone else. There are other good candidates.”

According to one Wyoming GOP voter participating in a focus group -- and who has voted for Trump in the past -- "I feel like there’s too many people against him right now. I feel like somebody else needs to step in that has similar views but not as big of an ego.”

Scored really high for ratings among those over 65, the people who vote every election. No surprise, they all remember Watergate and this goes way beyond Watergate.
