Ukraine war: Explosions rock Ukrainian port hours after grain deal

Source: BBC

Several blasts hit the western city of Odessa early on Saturday morning. The cause of the explosions is unclear.

Under the terms of Friday's deal, Russia agreed not to target ports while grain shipments are in transit.

The UN had described the deal as "a beacon of hope" following months of conflict.

Oleksiy Honcharenko, a local MP, wrote on Telegram that there had been six explosions in the city and that its port had caught fire after the attack.

Seeing as how it’s mostly the EU saying that … and who should have known better than to let a snake into their house in the first place.

I pray for a sane, truly democratic Russia to emerge some day soon. Such a sad history filled with paranoia and mistrust fuelled by a history of mass slaughter, from without and within.

but their style of warfare is to bomb every inch of a city to rubble. They've shown this over and over again. I am not surprised that Odesa is in peril.

I wouldn't be surprised if the plan was simply to have Ukraine harvest the grain and then bring it to them. It sounds good in UN circles to say, "Yes, we are letting food shipments through," but reality is different. The UN is not happy about the disruption of food supplies to dependent nations, and this BS about not targeting grain shipments might be to simply keep the UN appeased.

With their encircled army requesting a "green corridor" to withdraw their troops and not getting it, I wouldn't doubt that there will be no continuity or reciprocity regarding allowing grain shipments through to shipping on the Black Sea.

That's all anyone needs to know about this conflict. Diplomacy will simply not work until Russia changes.

Ukraine was right all along that this needs to be a long term military campaign to throw the Russians out of their country. Nothing else will work.

This is also the kind of behavior that will prevent investment in Russia for a very long time. I wonder if the Kremlin has thought about that part. I doubt it.
