Georgia judge upholds decision to keep Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on ballot
Source: Marshall Cohen/CNN
A Georgia judge on Monday upheld Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greenes eligibility to run for reelection, handing another defeat to the activist groups that have tried to use the US Constitutions ban against insurrectionists holding office to disqualify GOP candidates.
The groups have targeted lawmakers who aggressively tried to overturn the 2020 election and stoked the violence on January 6, 2021.
Greene, a prominent conspiracy theorist, won her GOP primary in May. The judges ruling does not change the status quo: Greene will appear on the ballot for the November general election, where she is heavily favored to win another term.
The challenge against Greene was lodged based on the 14th Amendment, which prohibits any officeholder who engaged in an insurrection against the US to return to their elected positions.

Every time she does something nutty she hurts republicans in R+3 districts. She's perfect right where she is.

(8 posts)People in her district have a right to vote for a racist moron, and they will vote for a different racist moron if the local R party nominates one.
But it would have been nice to establish a point of principle, that they don't have the right to vote for an insurrectionist who has no right to run. And neither do all the other R's in other districts where insurrectionists are running again.
The trouble is that she can testify to her non-insurrectionist intentions, and, so far, no one can produce proof that she has lied about this under oath-- like proof of Capitol reconnaissance tours, or tweets during the insurrection? That's what we would need...

(8 posts)...except that she happily lied under oath about having no insurrectionist intentions, and in order to apply that part of the 14th, one would have to prove that she lied. I'm sure that there is evidence that she lied, somewhere. But the J6 committee has yet to go after the senators and members of Congress who actively assisted the insurrection.

She should be allowed to run, and we can vote against her on the ballot.
