Sandy Hook lawyers say Alex Jones's attorneys accidentally gave them his phone contents
Source: Washington Post
The legal team representing Infowars founder Alex Jones inadvertently sent the contents of his cellphone to a lawyer representing the parents of a child killed in the Sandy Hook mass shooting, the parents lawyer said in court Wednesday.
The apparent blunder, revealed by attorney Mark Bankston as Jones was on the stand in the damages phase of his defamation trial, unearthed previously undisclosed texts about the massacre and financial information about Infowars. Bankston, who represents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, parents of 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, told the far-right conspiracy theorist that his attorneys had messed up and sent me an entire digital copy of your entire cellphone.
And that is how I know you lied to me when you said you didnt have text messages about Sandy Hook, Bankston said.
This is your Perry Mason moment, Jones responded, a reference to the fictional lawyer famed for his stunning 11th-hour courtroom reveals. I gave them my phone.

On Wednesday, Sandy Hook victims attorney Mark Bankston told Jones that his attorney had mistakenly sent Bankston three years worth of the conspiracy theorists emails and text messages copied from his phone.
Now a source familiar with the matter and another person briefed on it tell Rolling Stone the January 6th committee is preparing to request that data from the plaintiff attorneys in order to aid its investigation of the insurrection. These internal deliberations among the committee, which is probing former President Donald Trumps role in causing the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot, began within minutes of the lawyers revelation being heard on the trials livestream on Wednesday afternoon.
Jones has already featured prominently in the panels investigation for his role in whipping up public support for the insurrection and for his close ties to alleged conspirator Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers militia. Jones frequently hosted Rhodes as a guest on his InfoWars channel and his militia provided security for the Texas-based conspiracist.

(200 posts)Julie Jenkins Fancelli, the Publix heiress who has donated over $20 million dollars to the trump campaign, is a huge fan of Alex Jones. Through Caroline Wren (Caitlin Jenner's campaign manager) Ms Fancelli added another half million dollars to be managed and dispersed by Alex Jones for the Women's First and Stop the Steal rally. She also donated $150,000.00 that was used for robocalls to gin up support and donations for the rally.
It should be interesting to see if texts from her surface on his phone... just to be clear, she trusted Alex Jones... with money

(51,662 posts)But yes, he obviously knew his client lied when he said he had no Sandy Hook texts on his phone. He obviously planned on reacting a lot of stuff from what he pulled from Alex Jones's phone. My guess is his office sent the wrong (unredacted) file to plaintiffs' counsel.
It was reported on MSNBC that after the hearing there was a hot mic moment where Alex Jones' lawyer went over to plaintiffs' counsel and asked him "What exactly do you have? All of it?"
Apparently, this guy is the 10th or 11th lawyer Alex Jones had on the case. I imagine prior lawyers withdrew or were fired when they refused to suborn perjury. This guy was stupid enough to go along with Alex Jones' perjury.

It happens more often than attorneys like to admit. It's especially easy to do if the parties are using a shared database to exchange documents, which appears to be the case here:

(145,496 posts)Mark notified Jones' attorney in writing of the production issue and put Jones's attorney on notice so as to start the ten day period. This is from a litigator who I met at a securities CLE more than 10 years ago.
