As Many as 80,000 Russian Forces Killed, Wounded in Ukraine: Pentagon

Source: U S News and World Report

Russia has endured as many as 80,000 casualties since President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February, according to the latest assessment from the Pentagon of the steep costs Moscow has paid.

Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl told reporters on Monday that the number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded in the fighting is somewhere between 70,000 and 80,000. Kahl, effectively the No. 3 civilian at the Pentagon, added that the number “is pretty remarkable given that Russia has achieved none of Vladimir Putin’s objectives in Ukraine.”

I remember correctly, there were 190,000 Russians troops at the beginning. Therefore, they are approaching 50 percent.

If and when the Russian public receives solid facts about this war, I would guess a collective outrage will be directed at those responsible.

IIRC, they were losing 100 soldiers a day in artillery duels.

Bloody useless quagmire. Putin has no regard for the value of human life. Worst person on the planet, bar none.

If Ukraine had had a Russian puppet, I'm positive TFG and his Republican stooges would have blown the Hunter Biden thing up right before the election (just like they did the Hillary email thing in 2016). It took the media months to years to figure out that rouse. Too late to change the course of an election cycle.

thousands of civilians specifically targeted by Russian artillery. Sanctions may be hurting some Russian people, but they are doing nothing to atop Putin. Even his oligarchs are doing well because Russia is selling more gas to China and India at higher prices.

Putin is a dictator whose people fear him. They will not rise up against him as we once hoped because they have been cowed into submission over lifetimes and decades of punishment and execution. I believe this war will not stop until the Western powers make it stop. Hoping that Putin will run out of soldiers and weapons is happy talk. He will be resupplied with weapons by China and probably Iran. Soldiers will be conscripted, and more will be brought in from Chechnya. I have long supported the NATO powers sending every weapon needed to defeat Putin ASAP, along with stooping the nonsense that they will not give Ukraine the weapons allowing them to attack the Russian homeland. As far as I’m concerned, Ukraine has the right to attack Moscow if they want. Putin started this war without provocation. Russian cities should also pay the price.

Your point on civilians IS probably true of course. Horribly true. But the UKR military has been successful because they refused to get into big battles with a far superior (size wise anyway) enemy force. This enabled them to inflict heavier casualties on massed RU forces while minimizing UKR casualties. Had they gone head to head from the beginning, RU would have likely already "won" control.
Their goal is to get RU to mass forces so they can attack them with artillery instead of men. So far, RU keeps making the same mistakes.

It is interesting that DOD did not give an estimate for Ukrainian fatalities as well.
Which suggests that they are depressingly high as well.

During the shift to the East, they said they were having over 100 a day killed & injured. Thats dropped now to around 30-40 last I read. But they don't give regular updates either
You can bet the civilian toll is worse since russia targets civilians.
And Russia hasn't released a KIA number since March; still stuck at 1351. Which we KNOW is way off or this war would be over by now.
