Trump ally Scott Perry says FBI have seized his phone following Mar-a-Lago raid
Source: Independent UK
Trump ally Representative Scott Perry says that the FBI seized his phone the day after agents raided Donald Trumps Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The Republican congressman from Pennsylvania told Fox News that FBI agents approached him on Tuesday with a warrant and demanded that he handed over the phone.
This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish, Mr Perry said.
Im outraged though not surprised that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garlands DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting Member of Congress. My phone contains info about my legislative and political activities, and personal/private discussions with my wife, family, constituents, and friends. None of this is the governments business.
Mr Perry, according to Liz Cheney, is one of the Republicans who contacted the White House in the weeks after the January 6 insurrection to allegedly seek a pardon.

(129,104 posts)How Pa. Rep. Scott Perry promoted election lies between Election Day and January 6
The midstate Pa. congressman has rejected multiple subpoena and interview requests from the Jan. 6 committee.

Perry, a six-term congressman from Dillsburg who heads the pro-Trump House Freedom Caucus, voted against certifying Pa.s electoral votes hours after the U.S. Capitol attack on Jan. 6. He admitted that he had introduced Trump to Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark, who was sympathetic to Trumps baseless claims of election fraud.
The New York Times reported the two discussed ways to decertify Georgias Electoral College results. Perry, in January 2021, said he discussed election fraud issues with Clark, but was not specific. Publicly released text messages show he also communicated with Trumps former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows about ways to overturn the election.
From Election Day to Jan. 6, Perry promoted baseless conspiracy theories. The Jan. 6 committee has said he worked with the Trump White House to undermine the results of the 2020 election. Perry has refused multiple subpoenas and requests to be interviewed from the committee.
Perry condemned the insurrection, despite spreading disinformation that motivated the attack, according to reporting from news organizations, investigations, and public records.

(70,516 posts)Rep. Scott Perry, R-10th District, speaks Nov. 5 at a "Stop the Steal" rally seeking to overturn the 2020 election results. Perry played a significant role in the crisis that played out at the top of the Justice Department in January, when President Donald Trump considered firing the acting attorney general and replacing him with a subordinate who would be more willing to use the DOJ to undo the results of the election. (5,843 posts)Besides, have any reports of their use been published? I have read only speculation.
Just like the insurrectionists were so arrogant that they took photos and video of themselves committing crimes, I think most of the people involved were so sure they were entitled to overthrow the government and they were so sure they'd succeed, they didn't think they had to use burner phones to hide their criminality.
But it might be a good thing if they did use them; it would show they knew they were doing something criminal.

(2,910 posts)Buy them with cash. Use, then dispose. Very hard to document. Someone would have to be very careless and self-defeating to get caught.
There may be a trace of their use on the phone data service, but it would take a massive effort to associate that with a user who doeasn't want to be known. I don't know, I won't use smartphones.
