Joe Arpaio loses 3rd comeback bid in town mayoral race

Source: AP

By JACQUES BILLEAUD

PHOENIX (AP) — Joe Arpaio, the 90-year-old former Arizona sheriff who was a once powerful figure in Republican politics but was ousted nearly six years ago amid frustration over his headline-grabbing tactics and legal troubles, was defeated Wednesday in a race for mayor of the affluent suburb where he has lived for more than two decades.

His defeat in the mayor’s race in Fountain Hills against two-term incumbent Ginny Dickey marks Arpaio’s third failed comeback bid since his 2016 loss after serving 24 years as the sheriff of Maricopa County.

Even though election officials say all votes in Maricopa County have been counted, Arpaio said Wednesday evening that he wasn’t conceding the race and instead was going to consult with an attorney to explore whether to challenge the results.

“I am not saying I am going to do it,” Arpaio said of a legal challenge. “I’m not a lawyer. I just want a little information. In today’s environment, a large percentage of the people are not happy with the way the (election) system was working.”

He is 90. Even if someone likes him most people won't vote for a 90 year-old for anything where you have to do something.

However the fact he's a vile racist scumbag who wasted MILLIONS of tax payer dollars covering his criminal behavior and disregard for the law may have a just a little bit to do with it as well.....

... we "nearly deads" living in Sun City can be at the polls.

We lived in Tempe and Mesa for over ten years. The Chronicle, a local paper, really kept after him.

Look at his tie pin in the OP.
Of all the garbage surrounding this garbage, that tie pin is the most garbage.

I never thought I'd get a chance to vote against him in another election but he made it happen. Thank you Joe, it felt as good to vote against you this time as it did the first time.

Back when Arpaio was the sheriff, he used to sell these pink underwear at festivals that he made the prisoners wear. At the time I was working on a big medical software installation project and we had over 100 people working on it. One of my friends on the project wanted a pair of those underwear signed by Joe. It went against everything I stood for but I sucked it up and went to a Fountain Hills festival and bought them for him, but I made him pay for it. The whole project was in a big room as we were getting our marching orders for the day and as soon as the meeting broke up, I shouted, "Hey Kirk, here's the pink underwear you wanted me to buy for you." He was so embarrassed and turned bright red. He pulled the underwear out of the bag and showed everyone it was the Arpaio underwear. I wish I would have planned it better and knew what I was going to do beforehand because I would have put a pair of pink thong underwear in the bag. Hindsight is 20/20.
