Armed gunman tries to breach FBI's Cincinnati office; authorities pursuing suspect on interstate
Source: USA TODAY/Christine Fernando and Quinlan Bentley
The suspect attempted to breach the visitor screening facility at around 9 a.m. at the bureau's field office in Cincinnati, the FBI said in a tweet. After an alarm went off and special agents responded, the suspect fled north onto Interstate 71.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers pursued the suspect who was wearing body armor and a gray shirt as he fled in a Crown Victoria, said Thomas Breckle, director of Clinton County Emergency Management Agency. Officers traded gunfire with the suspect as he drove away, Breckle said. Parts of the interstate were shut down, officials said.
Clinton County Emergency Management issued a lockdown for all buildings within a one-mile radius of the area and instructed residents and business-owners to lock their doors and remain inside
The incident came a day after the FBI director warned against threats circulating online against agents and the Justice Department in the wake of the agencys search of former President Donald Trumps Mar-a-Lago home.

Ohio Republicans criticized the FBI and Department of Justice and demanded further details about what led federal officials to execute the search warrant. Rep. Mike Turner, R-Dayton, who sits on a House Intelligence Committee, asked FBI Director Christopher Way to provide the committee with information about the search.
...
"What was on the warrant? What were you really doing? What were you looking for?" U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, said in a Fox News interview. "Why not talk to President Trump and have him give the information you're after? This is unbelievable."
...
At a Pickaway County farm, "Hillbilly Elegy" author J.D. Vance said "haggling over some documents" doesn't justify the search. He argued the issue transcends legal questions and said federal officials need to be transparent with the public before taking action that could make political waves.
"You're dealing with a very popular former president of the United States, so it's fundamentally a political question," Vance said. "There's also a proportionality question. It's not just, what do we have the right to do, but what is in the national interest to do, what inflames the political passions of the country, and what are the American people owed in light of the fact that there's a big controversy around this?"

(12,158 posts)To work on fiber optic equipment. I would come to their door inside the building. Press the button while on camera. A voice would ask my business and to hold my id to the camera. After a wait, an agent would appear behind me and escort me through another door. All the personnel in that office were armed with Glocks, men and women.
I don't think this idiot would've lasted 10 seconds. They would've put him down in the foyer.
I don't like being around open carry people in public places, but knowing I was with highly trained professionals was okay.

(740 posts)An armed suspect who tried to enter the FBI's Cincinnati office is dead after standoff.
After negotiations failed, law enforcement officers tried to take suspect into custody, but the suspect raised a gun at authorities and was fatally shot.
The man was identified as Ricky Shiffer, according to three federal law enforcement sources.
A Truth Social account bearing Shiffer's name referenced his attempt to storm an FBI office, and also encouraged others online to prepare for a revolutionary-type war, CNN has learned.
"Well, I thought I had a way through bullet proof glass, and I didn't," the user posted on Donald Trump's social media site at 9:29 a.m. Authorities say the attack took place at 9:15. "If you don't hear from me, it is true I tried attacking the F.B.I., and it'll mean either I was taken off the internet, the F.B.I. got me, or they sent the regular cops while."
It's unclear whether the user was attempting to write more, as the post stops after the word "while." Authorities said the suspect fled in a car after attempting to get in the FBI office.
