National Archives counters Trump's baseless claims about Obama records
Source: Washington Post
Since the FBI search of his Florida home and club this week for classified documents, Trump has asserted in social media posts that Obama kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified and that they were taken to Chicago by President Obama.
In its statement, NARA said that it obtained exclusive legal and physical custody of Obamas records when he left office in 2017. It said that about 30 million pages of unclassified records were transferred to a NARA facility in the Chicago area and that they continue to be maintained exclusively by NARA.
Classified records from Obama are kept in a NARA facility in Washington, the statement said.

(8,208 posts)On the one hand, I imagine he doesn't want to wrestle in the mud with Trump and his supporters. On the other hand, they'll continue to spread this type of misinformation unless they know there will be Alex Jones-level consequences.
I'm no lawyer, but that does sound like a huge defamation suit that's waiting, and needs, to happen.

(8,073 posts)Tom Hanks (who the QAnon crowd chose to defame because he REALLY is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood and they wanted to claim that "even Tom Hanks is evil" ) has had his name dragged through mud.
In fact, I suspect (but obviously have no real way of knowing) that's one of the reasons he and his wife Rita Wilson became citizens of Greece in 2020. There was so much horrible bulls**t out there on YouTube and other conspiracy theory websites they probably didn't feel safe here and wanted a backup place to go.
"Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are officially citizens of Greece, according to the country's prime minister."
(NBC News Website, Gwen Aviles, July 27, 2020).
I lost a friend to the QAnon cult and she showed me all of her "research." We haven't spoken in two years and she was a really good friend. She started saying things like "Tom Hanks isn't who people think he is." And then of course believes the same of the Clinton's, the Obama's, Bill Gates, etc.
Honest to God I wish Tom and Rita would sue!

(8,208 posts)And I'm sorry about your having lost a friend to QAnon.. My husband only communicates on the most superficial level with one of his brothers, who is full QAnon--last week the brother posted on Facebook that Ayman al-Zawahiri couldn't have been killed in Afghanistan because he died of natural causes a year ago. He also thinks vitamins contain aborted fetal tissue.
Anyway, yes, it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's why Tom and Rita left the U.S.

(36,137 posts)make up is as good as fact. It's from their anti-government oligarchs' playbook script.
E.G: the serving of the warrant means the FBI is "going rogue."
So of course they'd forge ahead to say that the FBI fabricates the way the Giuliani crowd have; for months they never wanted to see the baselessness of their claims which never held up in 80 court rulings over "election fraud."
They had no basis for indicting Hillary for that very reason, and just blew up Comey's misgivings, -- in itself a political act -- in the press to kill off every single thing she ever factually did to be the greatest qualified presidential candidate in the history of the country.
Their reality is baseless. Their reality has no basis in Reality. It's mere oligarchic messaging that forms their "reality by consensus."
