GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) Standing in front of 1,500 Republicans at a rural ranch backdropped by the Sierra Nevada mountains, Nevadas Republican governor candidate Joe Lombardo referenced the elephant in the room without naming him.
The second-place finisher in the gubernatorial primary, Reno attorney Joey Gilbert, has baselessly claimed the mathematical counting was off and has continued to attack Lombardo. Lombardo to this point hasnt addressed Gilbert directly, who requested a statewide recount of the results and later filed a lawsuit that was thrown out last week. He didnt say Gilberts name on Saturday either, but acknowledged we havent come together since the primary.
No matter who you voted for, weve got to get past that, he said.
At the 7th annual Basque Fry, Republican heavyweights were eager to unite against incumbent Democrats at what has become a yearly tradition held in rural Douglas County. The event, which includes live music, an inflatable rodeo ride and Basque cuisine, is modeled after Adam Laxalts grandfather and former Nevada governor Paul Laxalts cookouts. The elder Laxalt was the son of Basque immigrants, and Adam now hosts the event with the Morning in Nevada PAC.

(47,437 posts)They love dressing up in weird outfits to hang out with their tribe. Looks more like a cry for attention than a political statement. They treat going to a political event like going to a football game, because to most of them it really is just a game.

(47,437 posts)He doesn't care about politics or government. He wanted a good excuse to dress up and be part of something. If he wasn't trying to get attention, he wouldn't have spent so much time on that ridiculous getup. Some of these people must have a really bizarre fantasy life.

(7,900 posts)They bought the whole pig. Now they must live with the poke he came in.
For other uses, see Pig in a poke (disambiguation).
A pig in a poke is a thing that is bought without first being inspected, and thus of unknown authenticity or quality.
************
A "poke" is a bag, so the image is of a concealed item being sold.
************
Starting in the 19th century, this idiom was explained as a confidence trick where a farmer would substitute a cat for a suckling pig when bringing it to market. When the buyer discovered the deception, he was said to "let the cat out of the bag", that is, to learn of something unfortunate prematurely,
hence the expression "letting the cat out of the bag", meaning to reveal that which is secret. The French idiom acheter (un) chat en poche and the Dutch een kat in de zak kopen and also the German die Katze im Sack kaufen (all: to buy a cat in a bag) refer to an actual scam of this nature, as do many other European equivalents, while the English expression refers to the appearance of the trick. The English idiom "sold a pup" refers to a similar con.

(47,437 posts)has already become part of the typical republican's lexicon: 2nd amendment, smaller government, lower taxes, socialism bad, and the election was rigged. They aren't very creative, so they'll repeat this over and over again for years.
