NBA Avoids Scheduling Regular-Season Games On Election Day
Source: ESPN
The NBA will be off on Election Day.
The league's schedule for the coming season will have all 30 teams playing on Nov. 7, the night before the midterm elections. The NBA is hoping teams use that night as an opportunity to encourage fans to get out and vote, plus amplify the need for civic engagement.
But on Nov. 8, which is Election Day, no NBA teams have games scheduled. Teams are being encouraged to share election information -- such as registration deadlines -- with their fan bases in the weeks leading up to Nov. 8.

(8,746 posts)On sports channels, the crawlers at the bottom have been streaming pushing get out the vote messages and stating the NFL is offering all stadiums to be used for voting venues. The same people in this country have had enough. Its time to bury this GQP. Or we bury democracy and our freedom.

(136 posts)How could you possibly go watch a basketball game, and sit there in good conscience knowing that you didn't vote? I am speaking merely of the fans. I am sure there are workers and others involved with NBA games that this will make it easier for them to vote, which I applaud. But if you need basketball games shut down to go out and vote, especially with the Rethugs and their disgusting actions, then you aren't paying attention or just don't care about what is important. But I do applaud this move and can't wait to cast my early ballot as soon as I am allowed to do so in my state!
