Ukraine war: Russia to allow inspectors at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant - Putin

Source: BBC

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has said UN officials will be granted permission to visit and inspect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear complex.
...
The director-general of the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), welcomed Mr Putin's statement and said he was willing to lead a visit to the plant himself.
...
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the prospect of an inspection in his nightly address, but said specific details were still being worked out.

"If Russian blackmail with radiation continues, this summer may go down in the history of various European countries as one of the most tragic of all time," he said.

There seems to have been an earlier demand by Putin that any inspectors go through Russia, which he's now dropped:

The office of French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday that Russian President Vladimir Puttin has “reconsidered” his original demand that International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors travel through Russia to the Moscow-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear site in Ukraine, Europe’s largest nuclear facility.

Still can't trust Putin, of course.

but the Russians seem to be pulling back from their veiled and not so veiled threats..."Nice nuclear plant you have there. Pity if it had an "accident"." A disaster at Zaporizhzhia would probably spread radiation over NATO member's borders, potentially triggering Article 5. Despite his rhetoric, Putin does not want an Article 5. Nope. Nope. Absolutely not.

Unless the russians are willing to demilitarize the area these inspectors will really only have a less than marginal effect

I wouldn’t put it past him to pull a stunt aimed at the inspectors and blame the Ukrainians for it. Maybe not “hurt” anyone necessarily, but say…a conveniently thwarted attack: The Russians just so happen to catch the “Ukrainians” in the nick of time. *Wink*wink*nod*nod*

Fuck Putin…and the horse he rode in shirtless on.
