Ukrainian hackers created fake profiles of attractive women to trick Russian soldiers into sharing their location, report says. Days later, the base was blown up.

Ukrainian hackers set up fake accounts of attractive women to trick Russian soldiers into sending them photos, which they located and passed to the Ukrainian military, the Financial Times reported.

Nikita Knysh, a 30-year-old IT professional from Kharkiv, told the FT that when Russia's invasion began in February this year, he wanted to use his hacking skills to help his country.

He recruited other hackers and founded a group nicknamed Hackyourmom, which now consists of 30 hackers from across the country, he told the FT.

Last month, he said they duped Russian soldiers in Melitopol by creating fake accounts and pretending to be attractive women on several social media platforms, including Telegram.

Brilliant to center that deception around the natural horniness of soldiers out in the field, far from home and the love of a good woman.

The most famous: tricking Hitler into thinking the Allied invasion would occur at a different time and place
than actually happened.

I've read both books and seen both movies based on the incident.

Ingenious...

On edit: And Operation Fortitude. Almost forgot that one.

An army that was entirely fake, consisting of cut out soldiers and inflatable tanks made of rubber sheeting.

The Germans kept thinking the Allies were massing troops and tanks in places where
there was only PR, artist types painting fake scenery and tanks, and spies faking out the enemy.

Maintaining the location of active duty military personnel in combat situations just seems like common sense.

An Irishman telling hyperbolic jokes about alcoholism, at a time of war, is not offensive.

Many reports of intoxicated Russian soldiers committing crimes against civilians.
That is the part that is not cool.

It is well documented that Russian males have high rates of alcoholism.
And it is impacting their performance on the battle field.

BTW Here are the 10 countries with the highest rates of alcoholism in males:
(Please note that Ireland is not on the list)

Hungary - 36.90%
Russia - 36.90%
Belarus - 33.90%
Latvia - 28.80%
Slovenia - 23.50%
Slovakia - 22.80%
Poland - 22.70%
Estonia - 22.20%
South Korea - 21.20%
Lithuania - 19.90%

They're rushing new enlistees into combat so fast they barely have time to tell them which end the bullet comes out.

I almost feel sorry for the young ones, forced into a situation they want no part of, far from home and comfort, though. I'm thinking Putin is desperate enough to be drafting teenagers at this point.
