State officials are also getting rid of mask requirements in homeless shelters, but they will remain in health care facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes, she added.
We are seeing major declines in hospitalizations, Ms. Hochul said. We have to restore some normalcy to our lives.
Covid-19 infection rates in New York have been steadily dropping since July, when a sixth wave spread through the virus-weary city.

(45,447 posts)I still wear a mask on transit here in DC but many don't. Same with rideshares and indoor venues for concerts.

(111,267 posts)Yes, I'm too lazy to look it up.
NY has a high vaccination rate, so Covid will be a short nuisance to most people. Unvaxxed hosers are on their own.
My own breakthrough Covid lasted all of 2 days, plus coughing up some gunk for another week. I've just gotten over the flu and that bastard hung on for five weeks of misery.
So get your flu shots, kiddies, this year's variety is a real stinker.

(45,447 posts)It was difficult to enforce and caused a lot of airline workers to get assaulted by idiots. For transit, I think many just didn't bother to enforce. Although I was on a bus to see cherry blossoms last April and the driver stopped and said he isn't moving until everyone masks up.

The spigot of business is back to wide open across the USA and when a variant hits that is not vaxxed immune we are in a world of hurt. The anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers will die and spread the new strain as they are known to do. Selfish and very ignorant a-holes.
I hope you fully recover. Welcome to DU and take it easy if you can

(5,067 posts)I recently got COVID when I brought my learning challenged son home for a visit. He showed no symptoms at all so no one knew he had it. The so-called adults in his cottage neglected to tell me he had been exposed when one of them had it and passed it on to a number of residents in their care, Michael included. As soon as possible, I will be getting my third booster as well. I don't want to get any sicker than I just was so will continue to use everything possible to avoid getting it again.
