Hertz plans to order up to 175,000 electric vehicles from General Motors over the next five years.
The agreement announced Tuesday includes electric vehicle deliveries through 2027 and will include SUVs, pickups and luxury automobiles from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and BrightDrop. The companies expect deliveries of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV will start in the first quarter of next year.
We are thrilled to partner with GM on this initiative, which will dramatically expand our EV offering to Hertz customers, including leisure and business travelers, rideshare drivers and corporates, Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr said in a prepared statement.
Hertzs current goal is for one-quarter of its fleet to be electric by the end of 2024.

(714 posts)I'm sure this will work well for them. But as a person wanting a rental car, I'd want a hell of a lot more charging stations out there before I'd even slightly consider getting an electric rental.
New Orleans, for example, was a nightmare for renting and using a car. Add on an extra layer of playing "where's a charging station" plus budgeting a few hours at the charging station (in line waiting for a spot to open up then charging time)...it'd come close to the point where the rental company would have to pay me to take an electric car off of their hands.

(4,993 posts)and Hertz (which is more business client oriented), the limited range of electric cars are not a big thing as, in my experience, usage is generally a lot less than a full tank of gas.
