Federal agents see chargeable tax, gun-purchase case against Hunter Biden
Source: Washington Post
The investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018, and became a central focus for then-president Donald Trump during his unsuccessful 2020 reelection effort. Initially, the investigation centered around Hunter Bidens finances related to overseas business ties and consulting work. Over time, investigators with multiple agencies focused closely on whether he did not report all of his income, and whether he lied on gun purchase paperwork in 2018, according to the people familiar with the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing case.
Agents determined months ago they had assembled a viable criminal case against the younger Biden. But it is ultimately up to prosecutors at the Justice Department, not agents, to decide whether to file charges in cases where prosecutors believe the evidence is strong enough to lead to a likely conviction at trial.
Given the intense political interest in a criminal probe involving the son of a sitting president, Attorney General Merrick Garland has made clear that the U.S. Attorney in Delaware, David C. Weiss, who was nominated by Trump in late 2017, is supervising the case.

(5,811 posts)and raged about LE the way Trump's thug adult children have? Has he said anything other I am FULLY cooperating with law enforcement. He's been very mature and rational. He's communicated anything he has to say to the authorities via his counsel. It's not like, you know he committed treason or violated the espionage act or committed sedition.
The GOP doesn't want to talk about Hunter Biden because he's behaving the way most people do when they're a target of a federal investigation - rationally.

Hunter B. is a troubled person. Beau who died of cancer cancer was probably the favorite son.
But when you are the son of a high profile Senator or VP, one needs to not screw up.
But nothing here makes it great news.

(1,766 posts)The case is before a grand jury and anyone on the prosecution side with REAL access who dropped info about such a case can be charged with violating federal laws regarding grand jury secrecy.
No FBI agent is going to risk that. This is the equivalent of someone who knows someone who knows someone who "thinks" a prosecution is coming. It's not from a real source who would know.
This is a giant nothingburger.

I've also been curious about OPEC/Saudi Arabia's decrease in oil production; Kim Jung Un (however you spell it) and his sudden interest in shooting missiles around the area to keep things stirred up, etc.
I always dread election season, as the orneriness comes oozing out of the walls and when one rumor is started, the other side shoots back with another, bigger rumor.
Hold on! It's just getting started.

(16,254 posts)They have to dig deep to find anything on Democrats, thus Hunter Biden. They never hesitated to use Hillary and her emails. Surely, they won't drag her into this election. They want to win in the worst way and don't hesitate to use what's available to get the job done.

(2,032 posts)They are liars. The majority of Americans know this, and will not vote for them. Our job is to GOTV and beat them in November. Mr. Biden's legal issues are his own, if they really exist. I think I read he already settled his taxes, and Pukes think guns are A-O-K.

(1,766 posts)Devlin Barrett is the reporter, and he's a known r shill.
Nobody who is actually part of the prosecution gave him this information because it could not only cost them a job, but also result in criminal penalties for revealing grand jury information. The only people who could do that would be the defense side, and Hunter Biden can afford real lawyers who wouldn't make their client look bad that way.
This is all one big honking pile of 3rd or 4th hand wishful thinking.
At best.

XorXor
(621 posts)It's positive, because if it turns out there is something here, it gives the democrats something to point to about how the rule of law should work. That being said, the republicans are already dismissing it as a just a show. So, we know that if they clear him they will till harp on it, and even if there is something here that does go forward, anything short of a summary public execution will be met with talk about how it's all show. But that's the state of our current political system.
As for the people who don't follow it closely, are they really likely to change their votes just because someone's family member MAY have done something? If they are influenced by that, then they'd probably be equally influenced by the investigations into Trump and those around him.

Only the prosecuting attorneys are able to make comments...once they decide whether or not they are going to press charges or not. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives referred just 12,700 cases to field offices for investigation. Of those, the Justice Department prosecuted exactly 12 one of every 9,333 alleged liars."
