Weinstein lawyer decries 'almost medieval' cell conditions
Source: AP
LOS ANGELES (AP) Harvey Weinstein's attorney told the judge at his sexual assault trial Tuesday that conditions in the holding cell where he's being kept after court are unhygienic and almost medieval.
Attorney Mark Werksman asked Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lisa B. Lench for help with the issue at the beginning of the second day of jury selection in the former movie mogul's trial on 11 counts of rape and sexual assault.
He said Weinstein is being left alone in his wheelchair for three or four hours in an unsanitary, fetid holding cell at the courthouse before he is taken back to jail.
Its almost medieval, the conditions," Werksman said. "Hes 70 years old. Im worried about him surviving this ordeal without a heart attack or stroke.

(5,125 posts)Take a gues which one Weinstein is at AND STILL complaining.
At Weinstein's income range, I'm sure he's traumatized, but so were his victims.

#LASDJustTheFacts Twin Towers Correctional Facility was designed to house 1,000 high security inmates in 2 man cells only houses 500 severely mentally ill inmates who require single cell occupancy. Most severely mentally ill require observation 24/7 increased by 25% in 2 yrs.
NOW THE LA COUNTY JAIL.....
WHERE the NON-Mental, NON-Medical people are incarcerated....
THAT IS BAD -- 24 hours OR MORE for INTAKE
https://nypost.com/2022/09/09/aclu-pushes-for-court-order-over-abysmal-conditions-in-la-county-jail/
The LA County Jail houses more than 14,600 inmates and the jails inmate reception center is where recently arrested individuals are processed and held while they wait for a more permanent placement at the largest jail facility in the country.
Under the emergency request, the ACLU is asking the court to order the county to limit the intake process to 24 hours at the most.
.....
According to the ACLU suit, inmates have died as they wait in the county jails inmate reception center. A man died in April after he was found unresponsive, while a 72-year old man who was held at the IRC received no medical attention and collapsed and died after two days.

(1,766 posts)Some LA County jail guards had tattoos in Spanish, "Changos Luchadores," AKA, "Monkey fighters."
Essentially a gang, with their own colors.

(33,643 posts)are the place he's complaining about.
It's a holding cell, that's (by definition) different from where you're housed normally.

(5,324 posts)But if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
Prison sucks for rich guys as much as poor guys.
Except that rich guys still have lawyers bitching about the conditions their criminal clients are 'forced' to endure.

(5,125 posts)See my post up thread.
There are 2 JAILS and he is in the one for medical and mental patients and it's a LOT better than the main jail where people have DIED waiting to get processed and sleep on the floor in cells with clogged toilets, etc...
But he is in the nicer one where most inmates have their own cell and don't have to share..

(8,986 posts)Hes had a lifetime of raping and abusing women while living a life of luxury most people cant even imagine. He should have been caught and thrown in prison for life a long time ago. Like, after the first rape.
Hes a lucky man. He walked free for way, way longer than he should have.

Nazi war criminal Alois Brunner 'died in Syria squalor'
One of his guards said Brunner, who went by the name of Abu Hussein, suffered and cried a lot in his final years, everyone heard him.
The man, identified only as Omar, said he couldnt even wash.
All he had to eat were army rations - awful stuff - and an egg or a potato. He had to choose one or the other.
(He was a 'consultant' to various torture regimes but when he became a political embarrassment/liability, his retirement plan was really bad)
