Jan. 6 Capitol riot probe briefed on multiple calls between Secret Service and Oath Keepers

Source: CNBC

Staff of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigative committee has been briefed on multiple phone calls in 2020 between an agent in the Secret Service’s protective intelligence division and members of the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia group, NBC News reported Friday.

The House select committee on Friday requested from the Secret Service all records related to communications between the agency and the Oath Keepers, including any contacts leading up to and after the violent Jan. 6, 2021, invasion of the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters, NBC reported.

The briefing to committee staff and subsequent records request was spurred by recent testimony at the ongoing federal criminal trial of Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes, who is accused with other defendants of seditious conspiracy.

Rhodes and his co-defendants are accused of plotting to stop the lawful transfer of power from former President Donald Trump to President Joe Biden.

I see the spokesperson for the Secret Service is trying to claim it isn’t a big deal, but Frank Figliuzzi calls bullshit.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told NBC earlier Friday that members of the Oath Keepers “reached out concerning logistics about demonstration areas and rules for attending Presidential events.”

“This is common activity between organized groups and advance agents,” Guglielmi said.

…snip…

Frank Figliuzzi, a former assistant FBI director who currently is NBC’s national security analyst, told the news outlet that while it is common for law enforcement to speak with a protest group or a group acting as security for an event, regular contact with a militia group such as the Oath Keepers raises concerns.

from information gleaned from the various Oaf Creepers investigations. In a case like that they often give said unsub more than enough rope to hang themself.

I sincerely hope this is the case regarding this SS agent.

the term "suspended" caught my attention but no further elaboration was mentioned in that report.

And it was difficult to suss out the date or time frame of that suspension in the context of the l6 committee and or DOJ investigations or FBI probe in connection to DOJ's invesgigations, all together it was effin vague, other than the point that he was a Secret Service person in communications with insurrectionists who chiefly involved in the planning operations of the siege/coup/insurrection.

Jan. 6 panel's subpoena yields "thousands" of Secret Service records

The chair of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack said Wednesday that the panel has received "thousands of exhibits" from Secret Service agents in response to its July subpoena of the agency.

Why it matters: Uncovering information from the Secret Service has been a major focus for the panel since testimony during its public hearings in June and July revealed the agency's role in key events on Jan. 6.

Driving the news: Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told reporters that the materials obtained are "a combination of a number of text messages, radio traffic ... thousands of exhibits."

Thompson said the the materials consist "primarily" of texts from agents on Jan. 5 and 6, but declined to go into further detail because the committee is still reviewing them.

By Julia Ainsley
The Secret Service has handed congressional investigators more than 1 million electronic communications sent by agents in the lead-up to and during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

While the communications do not include text messages, they do include emails and other electronic messages, according to a Secret Service spokesperson.

The communications may shed light on lingering questions, including contact agents may have had with rioters, their efforts to protect then-Vice President Mike Pence and what occurred inside then-President Donald Trump’s car when Trump allegedly ordered Secret Service agents to take him to the Capitol.

“We have and continue to fully cooperate with the Jan. 6 select committee. While no additional text messages were recovered, we have provided a significant level of details from emails, radio transmissions, Microsoft Teams chat messages and exhibits that address aspects of planning, operations and communications surrounding Jan. 6,” said Secret Service spokesperson Special Agent Steve Kopek.

But most of the Secret Service guys weren't complicit. Chump had a small number of hand-picked guys who did his bidding and kept their traps shut. Those were the only SS guys around him, at the White House and on Air Force One.

Identifying the bad guys as small in number when future facts may come to prove that they represent the overwhelming majority. We're to believe that a small number of SS and FBI personnel refused to act on tips and intelligence warning of violence 1/6/21 yet there was NO planning to pre-empt or stop the ongoing violence by either agency. Certainly, the congressional committee yet suffers from stonewalling by these extra-constitutional entities. That says to me the vast majority of the glory drunken boy scouts are poised for "heroic" misadventure. This can go from a "the good guys win" scenario to a "they're too powerful to ever fall" one. We are, after all, a super-hero addicted society.

Mid-term election day results loom ever more consequential as time reveals more here-to-fore hidden truth. Those tallies, the true results of the vote count and general acceptance of those results is everything. So goes living on the crux of destiny in the age of DC vs Marvel.

I think the country cannot survive relying on the good-faith oaths of armed secret societies not to run amok. Pity that the only way to eliminate them would be to assemble another special force empowered to eradicate them. Stalin got a bad name for playing this sort of chess with destiny.
