Truss premiership 'hanging by thread' after Kwarteng sacking and latest U-turn

Source: The Guardian

Liz Truss is desperately clinging to her premiership after she sacked her chancellor and ripped up the mini-budget but failed to calm the financial markets or furious Conservative MPs.

In a humiliating reversal, the prime minister backed down on plans to scrap an £18bn rise in corporation tax and replaced Kwasi Kwarteng as chancellor with Jeremy Hunt.

She said staying in her position as prime minister would help to “reassure the markets of our financial discipline”, but the cost of government borrowing rose and the pound fell following her press conference announcing the changes.

Senior Conservative MPs are plotting how to remove her from office, with some mulling whether to publicly call for her to resign in the coming days. One former cabinet minister said they thought it was “50/50 whether she will make it till Christmas”, adding: “If I could wave a magic wand and get rid of her now then I would, but the problem is the mechanism.”

They were at least competent in government. This shower is both awful and incompetent. Truss is my constituency MP. She has never received my vote.

So after Johnson & Truss went down in flames, they get to keep putting people in until they get it right?

Their political system is almost as big a Clusterfuck as ours.

She does not like it so I like to use it. She is also known as Thick Lizzy or my favourite “Daggers” as in the town of Dagenham, Dagenham is two stops down from Barking (as in barking mad) on the rail line.

He's the perfect conservative. Self-centered, Plans that take the longest distance between two points and often fail.

1. The UK has spent a considerable number of years getting into the current muddle.
Boris did nothing.
But people now expect new leadership to fix all the problems very quickly. Otherwise, the "incompetent' label gets applied.
Fixing the problems? Can't be done quickly. Not by Boris, not by Truss, not by the next leader.

2. In the UK, being seen as incompetent as a politician is a source of personal and political shame and a reason to be kicked out.
In the US, incompetence, low intelligence and lack of leadership skills are seen as assets, not deficiencies, in political leadership.
(How else can you explain Trump, Walker, etc?)
