Biden pushing lower prescription drug costs in midterm press

Source: AP

By COLLEEN LONG

IRVINE, California (AP) — President Joe Biden is highlighting his administration’s efforts to lower prescription drug costs on Friday as part of his three-state Western tour this week, as he confronts a sobering inflation report in the waning weeks before midterm elections.

Biden visited a community college in Irvine, California, to meet with older adults and tout his administration’s efforts to reduce inflation and drive down costs. The trip comes on the heels of an announcement that millions of Social Security recipients will get an 8.7% boost in their benefits in 2023, a historic increase but a gain that will be eaten up in part by the rising cost of everyday living.

Biden said that still, seniors “are going to get ahead of inflation next year. For the first time in 10 years Social Security checks are going to go up while Medicare premiums go down.”

“It’s a big deal for seniors,” he added.

1. The problem nobody is going to see any of this before November. SS doesn't go up

until next year. Drug prices haven't gone down yet. I just don't buy it that the IRA is going
to cut my energy bill by $1500 a year when gas is still going up. Maybe a year or more
down the road but it doesn't help today.

3. He needs to not create an expectation that drug prices will go down for people not on Medicare

It's great for those older people on Medicare, but won't lower prices across the board for everyone else. I'm not sure everyone hearing him credit the Inflation Reduction Act for it are going to understand why their's haven't gone down.

5. My $1000 a year med on the ACA became $2000 a year on part D

And will become $4000 a year next year. I look forward to a cap but that is still years away.
I already feel seniors are being taken advantage of. Part D is really pretty shitty coverage as it is.

6. Why not?

Get more Dem votes in the House and Senate and the drug prices will go down. Clearly voters need to know it matters who is in Washington. MAGA repubs will not help the people.

Making promises that don't come to pass angers voters.
