Early snowfall knocks out power to thousands in Great Lakes
Source: ABC News
Thousands of customers in the Great Lakes are without power on Tuesday after heavy snowfall combined with leaves still on trees caused many branches to fall on power lines.
Across the U.S., 28 states are under frost and freeze alerts from Colorado to New York. Actual temperatures are in the 20s and even teens. In the upper Midwest, temperatures in the 30s are widespread, with record cold dipping into the Ohio Valley and parts of the mid-South. Wind chills are in the single digits in North Dakota and Minnesota.
The freeze reaches the Gulf Coast on Wednesday, where temperatures could fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s.
Up to 18 inches of lake-effect snow fell in northern Wisconsin and up to 14 inches of snow fell in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on Monday.

(34,109 posts)in Kansas and I am glad I remembered to blanket the horses. It will be 23 or so tonight then a big warm up to the daytime 80's the end of the week. Totally normal for us but it is a tad colder than usual for this time of the year.
Thank goodness no snow, you all have my sympathy. Snow on the farm is rough here but it has been years since we have seen anything close to 14 inches. Good lord take care and warm if you can.
and lowest I saw was 26 and 22 tonight. Then around 80 by Friday I think. Talk about your roller coaster! No snow either, but we are in a drought here in KC area. I remember one time several years ago it got so cold (like now) and the leaves hadnt fallen totally, and they froze on the trees. I worry that will happen again. They will eventually fall, but hope they do before we have any snow, if we ever have snow.

It just now hit 19 degrees. I basically work outside on my little farm. Newest forecast is 82 on Sunday lows in the 60's. Crazy.

Neighbor though had two big limbs on the ground. Doesn't look like any damage.
