Prosecutors detail Oath Keepers' mounting frustration with Trump as Jan. 6 approached

Stewart Rhodes, founder of the far-right Oath Keepers, grew increasingly frustrated before Jan. 6, 2021 that Donald Trump had not taken even more extreme measures to seize a second term.

Messages displayed by prosecutors Thursday showed Rhodes — who littered his voluminous text messages with a stew of conspiracy theories — venting his disappointment with Trump’s refusal to invoke the Insurrection Act, a move he believed would permit the Oath Keepers to take up arms to prevent Joe Biden from taking office.

Rhodes repeatedly exhorted his Oath Keeper brethren in the weeks before Jan. 6 to prepare to engage in a bloody battle if Trump refused to act, the messages reveal.

“Either Trump gets off his ass and uses the insurrection Act to defeat the ChiCom puppet coup or we will have to rise up in insurrection (rebellion) against the ChiCom puppet Biden,” Rhodes wrote in a Dec. 20, 2020 message. “Take your pick.”

These guys are former soldiers or soldier wannabes. They speak in a coded armed forces lingo that is very limited in scope.

Trump wasn't going to make it easier for them to start the new civil/race war, and that irritated them. 🙄

They would have all turned and ran the second real soldiers started shooting back.

We need to stop pretending they'll run away. Especially, since you yourself point out some are former soldiers.

If these guys don't have the numbers to start a civil war they can commit horrible, horrible acts of terrorism if they concentrate for even a moment.

We should stop assuming and saying they'll run; instead we need to ask ourselves "what do we do when they don't?"

Jan 6th is solid proof of that. They can either give up after that or roll harder. And we did not see Jan 6th coming. So. If they roll harder they will kill someone important to us all.

Worse so if they start acting as lone wolfs....

As for what I'd do if they started shooting at me and my family.......I'd shoot back. Many Democrats are defenders of the 2nd Amendment as well, but we're not insane about it.

Repubs were never going to get away with it. Even the Secret Service, with its highly suspicious actions on Jan. 6, inadvertently stymied trump's plan of action by refusing to take him to the Capitol that day to "lead his followers" in taking the building."

Its amazing to me for trump or any of the others to think that even if that happened, that the institutions in the nation...Congress, the military leadership, the Democratic Party and others would just roll over and let it stand...even if he declared martial law.

They expect pushback but not as bad or as loud as you think. Because these guys are always convincing themselves they're always part of some gigantic group that's somehow invisible. Plus they're probably aware that they have people in the FBI and secret service that are on their side.
