Ukraine urges global ban of Russia's RT after presenter calls for drowning of Ukrainian children
Source: Reuters
Ukraine branded the Russian state-controlled RT media outlet as an inciter of genocide on Sunday after a presenter said Ukrainian children who saw Russians as occupiers under the Soviet Union should have been drowned.
In a show broadcast last week, RT presenter Anton Krasovsky said children who criticised Russia should have been "thrown straight into a river with a strong current".
Krasovsky - a pro-war commentator on Russian TV who has been sanctioned by the European Union - was responding to an account by Russian science fiction author Sergei Lukyanenko about how, when he first visited Ukraine in the 1980s, children told him they would live better lives were it not for Moscow occupying their country.
"They should have been drowned in the Tysyna (river)," Krasovsky said in response. "Just drown those children, drown them." Alternatively, he said, they could be shoved into huts and burned.

There is something very sick in Russian society for genocidal propaganda to be so easily broadcast.

It's really too bad, so few news outlets post raw video without commentary.

This is very dark and ugly.

(7,482 posts)The child was sent away from the capital and spent the rest of his life in captivity under a constant threat of death as the guards were instructed to kill the boy on the spot should any attempt to free him or even a call for it would have been voiced.
The child was stripped of his identity, the ability to socialize and even name: even the guards were banned from talking to the nameless one, as the child was referred to.
Ivans sufferings and his life ended abruptly on July 5, 1764, when an officer in the Imperial Russian Army had learned of the captives identity and attempted to free the ousted emperor and restore him in power. The guards of the Shlisselburg fortress acted according to their sinister instructions and put the young royal to death as soon as they learned about the conspiracy.

I've never received the RT channel however I have seen their website a few times, so I know what they are. They spread disunity and disinformation in English to the English-speaking world, while preventing their own Russian citizens from learning any truth about the rest of humanity.

(17,915 posts)They've sold their souls to a brutal dictator and his evil regime in order to gain some level of political and economic stability, particularly in St. Pete and Moscow. That's why many longed for a return of Soviet communism back in the turbulent 90's. It sucked, but it was a stable suck they could rely on. Putin generally doesn't fuck with the average, big city populace and they allow him to be, in essence, dictator for life.
Putin is currently breaking his part of the bargain. No idea where this will end.

(10,529 posts)I couldn't, because the source had been banned, posts deleted, from every major platform. I was unable to figure out what he might actually have written, who's published him, how he's funded, etc. etc. It was frustrating; it was impossible to fact-check the claim or vet the source because everything about them had been censored off the net yet the censorship had not stopped the claim from being circulated by a major conservative outlet.

Censors inevitably not only make mistakes but abuse their power. Relying on them to control what you can see means signing away all your power and therefore all your rights.

While a lot of his critical jabbering was aimed at republicans, he also attacked democrats who, apparently, failed to meet the Bernie Sanders Standard.

Supporters of Russia have suggested genocide, and have specifically mentioned children because they hope to end the future of the Ukraine people.
This evil should be allowed to survive. Reporters should get in the faces of every Republican supporting Russia and demand they comment on these atrocities. And for those who defended RT.
