Source: CBSNews.com
The suspect in the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul Pelosi had a list of people he wanted to target, law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation confirmed to CBS News.
David Wayne DePape, the man accused of beating Paul Pelosi with a hammer inside his San Francisco home on Friday, may have been planning to attack more people, the sources said.
They have not gone so far as to call the list a "hit list," but authorities believe the suspect may have been planning to target others, the sources said.

Hypothetically, if we reduced the sensationalism of crime and murder in this society, would we have less of this?

(1,766 posts)Don't cause people to think that they can do anything and get away with it, because they have right and might on their side. Even cop shows teach that the law or the "system" binds the heroes almost as much as it does the bad guys.
I'd look at something even more insidious, but standing there in the open for all to see.
Something that grooms people to be gullible morons by turning off the ability to reason--and the earlier the grooming starts, the better. Something that grooms people to deny reality and accept fantasy as fact. It grooms them to defend against any challengers, not by facing reality, but by doubling down on their fantasy, and instead seeing themselves as the persecuted, even as martyrs.
The grooming also teaches the groomed not to accept authority from people who, you now, know what they're talking about, but only to accept what those who think the same way they do think about things. Or at least say it's how they think. Only they can be authority figures, and you'll conveniently groom them to obey authority--the authority you've groomed them to accept.
This grooming also includes getting the groomed to see "signs" and "messages" and "patterns" in the unremarkable and innocent that instills in the groomed the belief that their ignorance is right and good. It also grooms them to be ready to defend and "protect" themselves they, their dear leaders and others like them, at all costs. Up to and including dying or killing for their beliefs.
Once that training take hold, the groomed are easy to manipulate and control. Remember what Voltaire warned us all, long ago:
Those who can convince people to believe absurdities can convince them to commit atrocities.
Of course, one of the unavoidable consequences of this brainwashing is that anyone who knows how to speak to this ignorance and persecution complex can also manipulate the groomed individual. And that "anyone" includes anyone outside of the original brainwashers. Once the ignorance and sense of persecution have taken root, anyone can use the same techniques to get the brainwashed to act.
Hm. I wonder what entity is able to groom people into believing absurdities and into a violent persecution complex--right in plain sight. And often from birth, at that, and, worse, with society's open blessing?
Maybe--just maybe--
It's religion.
