Trump former adviser Bannon files notice of appeal in contempt of Congress conviction, sentence

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) -Steve Bannon, a one-time adviser to former President Donald Trump, filed formal notice in federal court on Friday that he would appeal his conviction and sentence on two counts of contempt of Congress.

Bannon was found guilty in

July on two counts of contempt of Congress for failing to provide documents or testimony to a House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 riots at the U.S. Capitol.

In October a federal judge sentenced the 68-year-old political strategist to four months in prison. The judge, who also fined him $6,500, allowed him to defer serving his sentence while he pursued appeals.

Okay, let’s play with this.

First, you knew this would happen. He’s got the right to appeal. I have no problem with him appealing.

The other thing is, his likelihood of success is pretty much nonexistent. There’s no question he did what he’s convicted of, the sentence was reasonable, there were no mitigating factors…lock the man up!

Unfortunately, even those who try to overthrow the government, violently or otherwise, are still due the protections given to us all by The Constitution. Trust me, it totally chafes me that he's allowed to hide behind the rights he wouldn't gleefully take away from the rest of us.

But even if these appeals have no chance, isn't there a real possibility he could hold this up for months, if not years? But, the fact that he can put off serving his time while pursuing appeals...seriously? I wonder what that judge would have given the same consideration to a young black man charged with, oh I don't know, anything?

Like you said...lock him up. I'm not sure the judge could have been easier on him...he really should have been put away much longer & fined a whole lot more. He needs to quit whining and take it like the man he claims to be.

I heard on Nicole Wallace that the deadline was today. I don't know which documents for what crime or which investigation.

Perhaps until after the midterms? After the Rethugs dismantle the Jan 6th hearings (if they win) and its all moot anyways?

He'll try to drag this out until Trump's back in office (gods forbid 😱 and in a position to pardon him.

Which of course can NOT ever be allowed to happen, for too many reasons to list here. But I'd bet that's Bannon's plan.
