Obama to Democrats: 'Sulking and moping is not an option'

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Democratic Party’s most prominent figures warned that abortion, Social Security and democracy itself are at risk as they labored to overcome fierce political headwinds — and an ill-timed misstep from President Joe Biden — over the final weekend of the 2022 midterm elections.

“Sulking and moping is not an option,” former President Barack Obama told several hundred voters on a blustery day in Pittsburgh.

“On Tuesday, let’s make sure our country doesn’t get set back 50 years,” Obama said. “The only way to save democracy is if we, together, fight for it.”

Obama was the first president, but not last, to rally voters Saturday in Pennsylvania, a pivotal state as voters decide control of Congress and key statehouses. Polls across America will close on Tuesday, but more than 36 million people have already voted.

I have a couple voicemails from him.

No matter what the outcome on Tuesday, I am heartened by the stellar people we have in our tribe!

CLAIM: In a speech on Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced Democrats will cheat in the upcoming midterm elections by “dumping ballots.”

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Biden never said Democrats would cheat or that they would be dumping ballots in his Nov. 2 address. Video shows Biden urged voters to be patient as it takes time to count legitimate ballots legally.

THE FACTS: After the president’s remarks on democracy and the midterm election, social media users are falsely claiming Biden announced how Democrats would “cheat” in the upcoming election.

An Instagram post from Nov. 3 shows an image of Biden’s speech. “Joe Biden announced to the world tonight that they are going to cheat by dumping ballots,” the post said. “He asked the citizens of America to ‘be patient’ because it ‘takes time to count all legitimate ballots.’”

It's interesting that alleged adults need to be told something they should have known and lived by for decades
